It will depend on the healthcare package you have chosen. You get the choice to be GP led, or to use a Health centre type set up or to be independant. You also need to check your policy to determine whether your healthcare is within the Canton, or allows you to go outside of it.
I found this site useful:
www.doctor.ch/
All the doctors, gynos, paediatricians, dentists etc in your Kanton will be listed there and it will tell you if the doctor you want to see is fluent in English which might be more helpful for you at the moment.
When you go to register you will need to take your Health Insurance card, as they'll need the individual policy number of the person registering.
Depending on your healthcare package the billing can work in two ways - the Insurance company pays the bill and debits the franchise from your bank (this also happens with hospital stays or visits), or you get sent an orange slip and a breakdown of the treatment, you pay the orange slip and then you send back the treatment overview to your healthcare company to reimburse what they decide you are owed.
It's worth noting this before you make an appointment as a very thorough visit to the GP will most likely include bloods (most GP's are set up to take and test blood immediately for some conditions) so an appointment can cost a minimum of 300chf for an adult.
