Living in Copenhagen for 3 months May-July: help!!

We're going out to Copenhagen for a work secondment this summer with DH and 2 kids (1 and 4yo) - I'll be working full time while DH looks after the kids :) Any tips on the best areas to live? The apartments on offer seem to be executive types in the city centre but maybe a cheaper, more family friendly one further out might be better (the office is near Tivoli, so public transport should be easy, I think)? Any experience of playgroups etc., as we won't be able to afford kindergarten and my 4yo will be bored with no-one to play with!! Any tips on accommodation and family stuff would be much appreciated! Thanks xx

Never lived in Copenhagen but am jealous! We did a house swap there a couple of years ago with 2 small dcs and loved it. We stayed in charlottenburg which is a lovely neighborhood with good transport links (we were walking distance to the station).

We live in Hellerup, anywhere around here is great for the summer. International schools are based around here so lots of expats and near all the beaches which is lovely for the summer. There is a group called international parents on meetup.com which organises lots of gatherings during the summer ( we moved here during the summer and was a great way to meet people). There is also a group called LINK which has a subgroup kids korner that meets every Wednesday morning which are perfect for your age group.

I have two girls aged four and six so pm me and we can meet. I work fulltime and have an AuPair and know lots of families. Won't see you short of playdates!

No help I'm afraid but I am über jealous.
Lived in humlebæk for 6 months prior to having children and loved every minute of it. Have been desperate to go back ever since.
Enjoy your time over there, it is such a beautiful country.

It's a really small city and most places can be reached easily with public transport or bicycle within 20-30 minutes.

Bakken and Tivoli are lovely in the summer ( theme parks). The zoo and natural history museum are amazing. Experimentarium and the louisiana museum are great for kids. A lovely safari park about an hour and a half drive south. Lots and lots of parks, everyone picnics in the summer. It is expensive but there are always free/cheap things to do with kids if you look around ( sign up to a few Facebook pages etc).

It's such a fab place to spend in the summer with kids. This will be our third one and can't wait!

Hi - getting excited now as Hellerup and Charlottelund look perfect for us :)

Work are helping us find accommodation via an agency but they only seem to be coming up with snazzy executive-type places in the city centre though - which aren't really ideal with a 4 and a 1 year old :S

Our budget is 18800 DKK/month max but the cheaper the better as any extra will help with the increased cost of living! Do you think that will be enough for a 2-bed place? If you know of any good agencies or indeed anyone with a free place May/June/July, do let me know - I appreciate it's a bit of a long shot but thought it was worth asking ;)

Thanks a lot!

18800DKK is loads for a 2 bed place in Copenhagen! (Bear in mind if you look off your own back that a 2 bed place will be listed as a '3 room' place as they count every single room, ie include the living room).

Østerbro also has a lot of expats. We live on Amager which has a lot of international families and is a bit cheaper (Hellerup and Charlottenlund are probably the most expensive areas of Copenhagen, along with Frederiksberg). I live in a modern 2 bed flat with a balcony etc and pay 10500 DKK a month. I would say that's about average to give an idea.

If you're on facebook, join the 'expats living in Copenhagen' group. Plenty of expats travel for a few months and want to rent out their flat and advertise on there.
