I am american-irish citizen and my husband is irish citizen. We have a 9 month old daughter and have been living in the US for 6 years. My husband really doesn't like the US but has a great job. he stays cause of me. I like Europe but am afriad to go since I was raised in the US but I have really gotten to know more about western europe and I must say that it has its positives. We want to settle down as we have been moving for the last 6 years. My husband doesn't really want to move back to Ireland but likes Germany and the netherlands. I am scared about healthcare cause I don't know the systems or the language. Am I being unrealistic in thinking to stay in the US? Has anyone moved from the US to Europe? What was your experience?

I really think life wouldn't be as stressful as it is here in the states. To be honest, we are so spolied here and I am afraid of change.

Thanks for listening.

Hello

I hope you get some good practical advice here, I know expatinscotland made the move but I think that was before she had her dds

Could you put me straight on how to pronounce your chat name. I can't do it with out a certain mental image popping up and I would so like to eradicate it. Thanks

I moved to the Netherlands to join my husband to be as he was then. It's very very crowded and that's why we left. The people are very friendly though and most 99% talk english. Medical care is very similar to here in the US - you pay your insurance and decide what coverage you have. Where in the US are you, I moved to Colorado in October last year and I love it here. I can let you know a lot about the Netherlands places to avoid etc. Germany I only really now Hamburg but will try to help.

Suzy,
My name is pronounced aspen (place in Colorado) and then ice.

Ali,
It would be Eindhoven or Nijmegen. I lived in Colorado for 5 years and really liked it but I really think (I beleive) that my husband wants to move back to Europe. his heart isn't here. Where are you from and where are you living in CO? I lived in Fort Collins and Denver.

Hi there. I'm English but moved over from Colorado, we're living in Erie so I'm sure you know where that is. My husband is from a small village called Riethoven which is believe it or not outside Eindhoven. Eindhoven's huge and I would think you'd have to be careful about which part you'd live in. Lots of lovely country outside the city though. Nijmegen is more industrial. What does your dh do for a living?? The villages outside Eindhoven are lovely - Walijk, Riethoven, Hapert, Bladel. The older people do not tend to talk so much English in that part of the world in the villages. Eindhoven will be better thanks to Phillips of course.

Moved to Colorado meant to say from Scotland where we'd moved from Almere in the Netherlands.

dh is an engineer and philips would be the reason for our move but I have to say we are open to really any country in Europe. We want to move somewhere were the healthcare is good and cost of living isn't crazy. We also want our daughter to have a great education which I think the US lacks big time. We also thought of Scotland. We are going on a huge trip to Europe in 2 years for 8 weeks so maybe we will visit a country we never thought of. We would like to be settled by the time our daughter is 3-4 years old.

I don't know where Erie is??

Good Morning, sorry didn't see you last message. Umm let's see. Don't move to Scotland it's a beautiful country but I have to be honest and say I feel far safer here in Colorado than anywhere in the UK. Erie is NorthWest of Denver about 14 miles east of Boulder - couldn't afford Boulder prices .

I have two boys aged 4 1/2 and 3. Cost of living
housing is expensive in Europe compared to here especially Germany/Netherlands. We bought our house here for the same price we sold a 3 bed semi in 2000 in Holland. Gas prices are extortionate!!!! Food is more expensive, clothes are more expensive especially in Europe since they joined the Euro. You don't have sales tax though on most stuff. I still find it a lot cheaper here though.

Would I go back - not unless I absolutely have to and then I want to come back here. We've already applied for our Green Card If you want to talk proper to me rather than this way let me know more than happy to help.
