Onsies - is it purely a UK phenomonen?

I see constant references to onsies on my fb newsfeed and sometimes on MN chat...

Is everyone in the UK wearing babygrows outside working hours?

Do people over the age of 2 wear "onsies" where you live?

I wanted to ask on "living overseas" because it sounds as if onsies have become "normal" in the UK, but I've never seen them in the shops here in Germany, and children who stay at ours for sleepovers don't bring babygrows onsies, so I don't think they exist.

Am I the only one living overseas who thinks the UK population have possibly gone a tiny bit loopy, with their apparently wholesale rush back into nursery sleepwear, or is it in fact perfectly normal?

Oh my goodness I've just had a flash back and realised that not long sfter DH and I got married my mother appeared to us in a onEsie... it was at least 10 years ago and she looked like a terrifying aged baby from a horror film, carrying my father's cornflakes and 2 cups of coffee on a tray and grinnkng down at us as we lay, struggling to wake up and process the vision, on a very uncomfortable fold out sofa bed in her conservatory... could this memory in fact be a premonition, or were there onEsies in existence 10+ years ago (outside Norway)

Have we established onEsies don't translate but are found across the English speaking world (allowing for the anomoly of starting in Scandinavia, where it is ridiculously cold a lot of the year so they are sort of excused, as ling as you ignore the price they try to charge to export them)?

They'd stop threadworms because you wouldn't be able to scratch while wearing it.

I haven't seen any adults in them when I've turned up unexpectedly at night or anything either, whereas DD and her friends all wander off to each others houses dressed as monkeys, tigers and all sorts of things...I don't see many baby grow types, more fuzzy fancy dress, lol.

None in Italy either.
I went shopping with my Italian cousin (visiting us in England) the other week. She thought onsies were daft because you'd get really cold when you needed a wee. She was impressed by the wide variety of pjs, dressing gowns, and boot shaped slippers though.

You buy one with a trap door. Easy access to nether regions for any purpose.

Yes tabula ds occasionally brings home visitors from nursery - they come out at night lay eggs, make it itchy, they then scratch and then transfer eggs everywhere. Although he has caught them since onesies he hasn't reinfected himself. Now to bring out a new fashion craze which stops headlice!
