We are here. I am feeling quite at home already! Helped along by the fact that DH has brought us (for us, read me) a laptop...sorry notebook pc. It's great being able to reach all my friends in the UK so soon & of course to be able to be a part of the great mumsnet once again! Only a couple of weeks, but missed you lot!

And...this is the WINTER! Hahahahahahahahahah

melissasmummy · 01/07/2006 13:51

hi suzy, a very long way. We had 14 hours to kill in Singapore! We booked into the transit hotel tho, so not so bad.

Am in Adelaide & it's cold!!!

OP posts:
suzywong · 01/07/2006 13:53

did you go out of the airport?

So Adelaide.....great wine.....what else? Churches it's got lots of those.

And remind me again, is this a permanent move

KateF · 01/07/2006 14:58

Hi from Leighton Buzzard . It's hot here! All the best with your new life.

eidsvold · 01/07/2006 23:10

hiya and welcome. Still it is winter - nothing like the UK - you'll love it. Churches, gardens and wine - look forward to reading about your adventures and educating us ( esp. us slack aussies) who have not made it to Adelaide

mymama · 01/07/2006 23:50

G'day!! Welcome. Is it permanent? Did you choose Adelaide yourself?? Only asking as I was speaking to a UK bloke at work yesterday and his sister and her family are trying to move out here and have been told they have to go to Adelaide.

melissasmummy · 02/07/2006 09:29

Suzy, we didn't leave the airport at Singapore. Wasn't sure if we could? Lots of churches, yes, on every corner almost!

KateF, hey...that's just where we moved from!

mymama, we choose Adelaide as dh's family is here. we are staying with them while we get settled.

Good Luck Melissasmummy - feeling a tad jealous even if it is winter over there. Enjoy the adventure of it all

suzywong · 02/07/2006 10:35

get Foxtel ASAP, Australian tv is Shite.

Sorry but it is, everyone knows that.

And make time to change your driver's license over, you will have to take a theory test but you can practise online.

biglips · 02/07/2006 10:43

yyiippppeeeee well done getting there! hope u hae a great life

melissasmummy · 02/07/2006 13:18

KateF · 02/07/2006 14:25

Yes, I remembered you were from Linslade . Think you will have made a good choice leaving here and going to Oz. We also dithered over going to Adelaide but dh now not keen to move

melissasmummy · 03/07/2006 12:44

kateF, realised once i posted thast you were from LB. Tell hubby to do it,

jenkel · 03/07/2006 15:38

Glad its all going OK for you, a bit jealous but hopefully will be us some time in the future.

Take care and enjoy!

mymama · 04/07/2006 12:12

Have to object to the australian tv thing. What is on foxtel that is better than free tv?? Are there english shows??

arfishymeau · 04/07/2006 12:23

Welcome MM! It's a looooooooong way isn't it!

For the first few months every time I thought about where I was I got a strange 'falling off the world' feeling .

Agree with Foxtel. We stoically lived without it for a year (well, ok had no choice on short term rentals) but the second I signed a 12 month lease I was on the phone getting sky plus (aka Foxtel IQ). Oh the joys. UK Sky News at 8.30am too.

And you can fly to the tropics instead of Europe!

Enjoy your stay and welcome to the Oz side of the board. You'll find us propping up the very quiet active convos overnight.

melissasmummy · 05/07/2006 01:59

Katef, should have added, that you should do it. It is a great place to be, although it is cold at the moment. The sun is shinning today, but there is a deff chill around.

Petrol is the equivilent to 80p a litre! Although at $1.28+ the aussies aren't happy!

The sun is shinning today, but there is a deff ch

Know exactly what you mean about "falling of the edge of the world" thing, I really don't like to look at the map of the country because it highlights just how isolated we are here in Perth.

Myamama; Eastenders, BBC news, UK Sky news, Comedy Channel, documentaries, no inane commentary and no 80s style amateur ads shouting " BOB AND BAZZA'S CHEAPO TILE WAREHOUSE WE'VE GOT TILES, THEY'RE CHEAP, THEY'RE IN A WAREHOUSE"

yummimummy · 15/07/2006 12:02

Welcome MM ( and Hi everyone else)
Can I just add - LIFESTYLE CHANNEL on Foxtel
And when you do sit your driving test don't do as I did and be arrogant and overconfident assuming I already knew all the road rules.
I got 26% and FAILED.
Then I read the road rule book and realised that there are an awful lot of rules that are completely different here.
I hope you're settling in well and getting organised.

Bouj · 15/07/2006 12:24

God suzy, you've just summed up what I hate about Australian television. The first time I brought dh here and he watched telly, he looked at me and said 'why are they yelling at me?' Loved the lack of yelling when we moved back. Now we're back, we have to put up with hearing everyone's sales at top volume. What is it with Australians? Do they not take notice unless you yell at them?

Bouj · 15/07/2006 12:25

Oh and welcome melissasmummy, was born in adelaide, it is very pretty. The scenery is amazing lots of great holidays to be had with the kids.

melissasmummy · 16/07/2006 02:31

Hi, I have noticed the yelling too....and the fact that the adverts are so loud anyway! We are settling in fine, just got our own car, so not having to use in-laws anymore. DD is now sleeping thru the night (eventually) just have to get her eating back to normal & her table manners are shot to bits too! She used to eat so nicely at home, but not now!

Hi there, we moved out to Perth at the beginning of the year and love it. Dh is from here anyway to just being back home for him. Took DD alittle while to bounce back too. After all the moving think she was a bit insecure and would get really upset if she thought we were going to start packing things up again. Didn't last long though.

suzywong · 16/07/2006 07:31

Aha! A chance to pounce on a Perth Person!
hello LoubieLou04!
Isn't the weather spectacular today? (endless blue sky and sunshine and 21 degrees).
My dh is a Perth man too and we move from London 2 years ago, it does take a while for the kids to settle in does't it, but Bloody Oath once that's out of the way it's absolute paradise for them here.

See you

LoubieLou04 · 16/07/2006 08:18

Weather is perfect today. Got a friend coming over and having bbq and a few beers. Definately made the right choice coming out here.
