I see quite a lot of it here in Bonn - I think they like the pattern stuff and see it as a way to being 'British' and a bit quirky. I live in a predominantly middle class area tho'. The prices charged in euros in the German site are more than if you paid in pounds and paid the shipping so Jonny is obvs trying to make a fast buck.

I always sell dd's used Boden on German ebay. Fetches ££££s more than on UK ebay.

Therein lies your answer!

I just don't get this Boden fetish! can somebody explain?

LinzerTorte · 28/09/2013 16:54

I have a couple of friends here in Austria (one German) who buy Boden for their children; you don't see many women here wearing it, though. I was amazed that one friend recognised my dress as Boden, but she said she buys from there herself - she's the only adult I've ever come across who wears Boden. Like bluebellmuffin said, it costs €€€ here.

DH always laughs at the name, or rather at the way I pronounce it - Boden means ground or soil in German, so it sounds like I'm saying a German word in a very exaggerated English accent.

I don't think it's much of a concept here in Berlin, I've certainly never heard anyone talk about it - either adult or children's clothes. It was a surprise to realise that the website even exists in German.

I have the opposite problem - I can only say the name with a German pronunciation, as if I were talking about the soil. So 'it sounds a bit like Bawden to rhyme with 'saw' instead of Bowden to rhyme with 'no'.

My kids have a few Boden items (bought for them by my mum, I don't "get" the Boden fetish either) and it does re-sell well on German ebay - some items better than others... I've never had anyone German recognize it as Boden though, at least not to comment on it. But we live in a rural area and people are more likely to be proud of their thrifty second hand bargains from table top sales than shopping on the internet, smart phones are condescendingly referred to as "zip zap Handy" for those who are lazy with housework, and plenty of people don't have an email address to put on the class contact list though they happily hand out their home address and phone number to all and sundry...

I know someone who is the ONLY person not on a class list because she reckons her Hs job is SO secret.
