Hi all,

DH could move to any of these locations at some point. Obviously not looking at now because he's still commuting between here and SE Asia. Maybe in a year or two once we've all recovered from Singapore!

Goes without saying that we wouldn't even consider it unless we found a really good fit with schools. I just wondered if anyone had any experience of schools (either state or private) in these areas?

That's the only thing that bothers me about it other than just the general settling in. Whilst we were in Asia we didn't really miss any thing from the UK that made it unbearable. Yes we were happy to come back but that was all around the school situation.

We still have itchy feet. The kids make friends so quickly. DS2 is doing well at school (they're sure he doesn't have SEN - go figure). Are we foolish to let Singapore terrify us into staying in one place forever... (gut feeling = no, we're not).

Thanks for any input.

I don't live in any of the cities you are considering but wanted to let you know that we found settling in the US much much easier than in any of the expat communities we have lived in around the world.
Of course you don't have the language barrier but I think it's more than that. Everything is familiar enough that you never feel at a total loss as can sometimes happen when trying to negotiate simple everyday things in some foreign countries and we've found the people here to be so lovely that I never want to leave!
Short answer - don't let one bad experience put you off, America can be fabulous!!
