Sooo Hubbies company have offered him a transfer to the Brisbane office. We have pretty much decided to go as if we stay here he will have to get another job and proberly take a pay cut. We love living in Perth but unfortunatly can't really see much of a future here for us, its just too expensive.
Has anyone made the move between them or does anyone have any advice on areas and schools

Hello from Brisbane.. We live it here. Will depend what you want regarding where to live. We are just off bribie island and both of us work in the city Cbd.( well I'm Northside if the Cbd) dh is in fortitude valley. Train from here is under an hour.
I guess Brisbane can offer everything.. Beach life, country life, city life.
Bribie is my favourite beach area but we are on acreage too so best of both worlds!
New farm, lovely city area but not cheap! Great cafe culture.
Dayboro Samford. Lovely country areas.
Little Britain is at north lakes.

Schools mine currently go to a private lutheran school. They are moving to another private school at glass house from January as its a prep to year 12 campus. Not too cripplingly expensive.
Some state schools are good. Some are not.
Feel free to message me if I can help further.
Other than knowing Ipswich and Logan have poor reputations I have limited south side knowledge. Wink

Any specific questions? Any particular type of suburb or lifestyle you're after?
I prefer the north side.

Oh I 'll just jump in ad wellWink I 'll be back with questions as well after our trip. Will be passing north of Brissie on the way to Caloundra if anyone wants coffee.

Thanks for your replys. Still trying to decide what to do. What are the schools like over there? We would prefer to stay with State but we will go private if we have to. Whats the story with Kindy. My youngest is all set to start in Feb and it is free except for the voluntary contribution, the only stuff I can find about kindy in Brisbane it seems to cost $750 a term. We have no idea about areas, here in Perth we are by the sea in Hillarys. I was looking at some of the Bayside suburbs, the reviews are pretty good but the schools don't look so hot. Alternativly I was looking at Chapel Hill but DH thinks that is to close to the city and too far from the sea. Hopefully the company will pay for a reccie so we can see the areas for ourselves. The areas I thought I would like in Perth from research on the forums I hated when we got here so we will see.

hmmm, the kindy thing in Brisbane is a pain to be honest - you might find most places already full for next year in the inner areas and the bayside. Places in 'C&K' were offered this term - there is movement of course but definitely get that sorted out first once you hone in on a preferred area. Lots of Brits/Europeans love the Bayside - sea breezes being a big draw as well as being near the sea/easier access to Gold coast etc. I think there are some good private schools that way (thinking Ormiston, Moreton Bay Colleges, Redlands) but I know Manly State School is very well regarded too. I love it over there but the big thing for us was commute to the CBD - my husband works v long hours and the thought of adding another 40 mins or more etc was a no go so we opted for a very expensive but very nice city area but he can cycle in 15 mins to work. Our local state primary is impressive in terms of education - but lacking somewhat in facilities.
The Western Suburbs like Chapel Hill, Kenmore etc are nice and feel fairly rural - they felt a bit 'far out' in my view but that was me city girl looking around!. Don't think transport is as good either though (park and ride bus route I think but not alot else). Definitely think about the work commute first. PM me if you want to chat more.

Kindy depends very much where you live. Our school has kindy attached now, as do a few other local private schools. Sorry not a huge lot if info on bayside. Been that way for trampoline comps at the pcyc :0)
Kindy isn't free here. We pay less than $700 a term tho! I think after the gov contribution it was about $350 a term. For 2,5 days a week. Places are tight in some areas. C and k are very popular as they are cheapest and generally good! Wink
There is a new prep to 12 school opened up near northlakes (redcliffe) which looks nice. Cath ed. Southern cross? I think.
Commute wise it just depends as before what you or dh want. I commute to rbwh 3 times a week from bribie. 45 mins using new tunnels. Just fine. Dh trains into fortitude valley. Loads if peak time express trains running now. Suits us to live next to white sandy beaches and on acreage Grin likewise great city living too but very expensive in some areas.
