Back to UK- with a bump or relief??

Planning UK return soon and interested to hear people's experiences of moving back-imagine generally mixed, relief tinged with some regret. Not sure what i'd miss other than the warmth, a couple of friends and sense of (unrealised!) possibility. For dcs, will be a mixed bag and a huge shock, i imagine. But good to be "home". maybe my rose-tinted glasses are too firmly on!

This will be interesting to know. We're moving back soon too, as dh has been made redundant.

I'm sort of glad to be going home, as have struggled to adjust, with very little support from dh when I'm homesick and such like.

Have made some friends, but not anyone I can call a really good friend iygwim. So, won't miss them really. But think dd1 will miss her bf she made at daycare.

I'm hoping my dds will pick up a second language with my dps speaking to them, so that's a bonus. I hope theypick it up quickly, so they uunderstand what we're talking about.

Have you got a date yet? Do you know where you'll settle back 'home'?

Neither certain, how about you? Been away long? Homesickness when staying at home, hard!

I came back last year after five years in the US. I love being back, but then I was quite homesick in the US.
It's not straightforward, though, because you do adapt to wherever you are, so you can still get one or two pangs for where you left.
Otherwise, I feel much more comfortable, and as if I just "fit in" here in the UK. In the US I felt like a "guest" which wears thin after a while.
People would ask me how long we were staying because it was so obvious we aren't American. I know they were just being interested and polite.
We had some great times, and some happy memories, and good parties. In five years a lot can happen!
Moving back, for me, was a huge relief, like putting on an old pair of slippers! I find people very friendly and chatty. I love the diversity and quality of food here. I won't go on, there are a million reasons why I love being back!
