May I tap the collective wisdom again? We are looking to move out of our small flat and possibly buy a house so that my mother could also come and help us with the baby when it arrives. My husband still works in the UK.
We have found a place we both like and could hopefully get a mortgage for in St Gilles, near Ixelles, in the vicinity of Ma Campagne. I have read somewhere that as of a few years ago, one can only enroll children at local schools in the commune one lives in. I have also read that the standard of schools in St Gilles is poor (and have no idea about nurseries). Would you concur with this? Would our child be condemned to grow up to be an illiterate yoof if we moved to that area of St Gilles?
I would like the children to get a decent education and the chance for a nice group of friends. Doesn't need to be the best school this side of the channel - husband is an academic so the kids could probably not escape extra lessons at home in any case.
Not worrying about nurseries yet as I figure they can't make so much difference, as long as they don't abuse the kids, but please tell me if I should worry.
