Hi all,

Hope everyone's well. Anyone recommend a family type resort in the Maldives? Thinking about it for Chinese New Year (only cos my kids get only one week's holiday between January and June, at Easter, so CNY would be a good opportunity to go and explore - not cos I want to avoid CNY!).

Thanks,

Karen

Dont have any specific resort advice (I went to Soneva Gili and loved it but that was pre-DC. It's probably not the most DC friendly) but just to say you need to book flights very early for CNY because every single expat in the Asia region will want to go on holiday that week.

Hi

The Conrad (Hilton back then..) was very good. Its 2 Islands joined by a jetty. One side all overwater and quiet, the other with beachfront villas (secluded enough) and communal living areas.
The four seasons is usually the best value of the higher end kids club friendly resorts. One of our best family holidays (with a 3 & 5 year old).

Both are within distance to the airport for a boat ride rather then overnight in Male+air transfer (The flights from and to singapore are late night i think so air transfers not possible)

Richman, did I read somewhere you just had a baby?
Congratulations! Any sleep? Smile

Thanks both. I've booked something in Phuket :-)

Excellent. I'm trying to psyche myself up to try borocay- journey is a bit of a shag apparently but once you're there it's amazing. laptop - yes I've had another baby- my second. Not getting huge amounts of sleep but surviving, largely due to my amazing helper who is keeping ds fully occupied.

Omg LOVE the conrad in the Maldives, we were there over Easter, saving up for a return trip! Been to several resorts there and this beats them all hands down, even with Dds aged 3 and 7....

Richman the journey to Boracay is so worth it is a totally amazing place. Hotel wise my personal faves snd recommendations are Fridays, Seawind and Sangri-La. Smile

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 31/08/2012 00:02

Thanks Calamansi

Which do you think would be best with young children?- DS will be 2.5 yrs and DD will be 7mo.

laptopwieldingharpy · 31/08/2012 04:48

I hear boraccay is worth the hassle! Still cant figure out the best season.....
We were in vietnam in august and loved it.
Hanoi has a lot of charm. Hoi ann is really lovely. Lots of old shophouses, gorgeous fresh food, nice art and not a sleazy bar in sight.
Great beaches too.

I've not been for a few years now (back living in the UK now) but sea wind has a cute pool and one of the best spots on the beach. Sangri La also has as you'd expect amazing facilities. Enjoy your trip the sand is pure white and so soft, truly awesum Grin

Bandos is a family island, has kids pool, nursery, kids club, park with climbing frames, babysitting service, film nights, magic nights, kids parties etc.

Because we had such a great family holiday, I went again on my own with DS for 3 weeks as my DH was away with military work. They have really cute beach houses with bedrooms on a mezzanine level for privacy and relaxation.

They all remembered my DS and the nannies came to welcome him off the boat! Plus it's only 15 minutes by speedboat from Male.

Most relaxing break ever....

Just wanted to add this one. Haven't been, but I have my eye on it. I think it's one of the few resorts that have family houses over the water?

Bookmarked for the future. They all look fab! Thank you!
