Hi there

We are a bilingual family (Canadian Mommy, German Daddy, 18 month old daughter & super gentle doggie) looking to meet other artsy fartsy English/German speaking parents for playdates, outings, bbq's, etc...

We're located in the fabulously green (but unfortunately unfriendly) area of Köpenick =O)

Hi there. We lived in Berlin for some time. Hope you settle in soon. I remember that Köpernick had an unfriendly feel to it when we wandered about the little centre with the Rathaus one day. I can imagine it might take a while to find your feet since I suppose people don't tend to move there much from other parts of Berlin but grow up there and just stay. Germans are big on clubs IME so if you and dh feel attracted to any particular sport, maybe a local Sportverein would be a good place to start meeting people. I found in general that people in what was East Berlin are very family-orientated and comfortable around children, so there are bound to be many other young families involved in sports clubs.

You are quite far away from the usual English-German meet-ups and clubs and so on (Charlottenburg or Zehlendorf/Dahlem generally) but it might be worth making a hike across town once a week to meet up with some other mums. The Anglican church St. George's in Neuwestend has a toddler group. I think it was Mondays at 10 and the American Church in Hüttenweg, Zehlendorf has one too but I can't remember when that is. In Köpernick you'll probably find that the local churches will have an Eltern-Kind get-together one morning a week and you might make local friends through those. There are a lot of these type of things, the Haus der Familie offers them too.

There's a place I have never been too in Prenzlauer Berg called the Center which has a lot of English language activities. Maybe you'd find some nice things to do there and Prenzlberg is also quite a trendy place so more open-minded I should think and welcoming. It is also a bit closer to you than Neuwestend or Zehlendorf

I'll be moving there in April with DP and DS (6mo) - seems really soon to me but I guess you'd like to meet people before then...

Hi beginnersluck

Do you know where you'll be living yet? I've been in Berlin for 4 years now and am happy to answer any questions you may have...I've also written a few articles about living in Berlin on my blog: awesomesauceasshattery.wordpress.com/category/life-in-germany/

Let's keep in touch & we can meet-up once you're settled in over here =O)

I think we'll be out West - Dickensweg maybe? Doesn't look very near you on the map, though I've no idea how it works in reality - do people travel much or head into the centre of town for days out?

Thanks for the blog link - and for the offer of question-answering. I think I will have childcare questions soon...among other things...

Have you seen the chat thread? Maybe there is someone there who is in Berlin...
