Aussie presents to take back to UK for Xmas?!

I'm heading to England over Oct/Nov and wanted if poss to take with me any Aussie gifts that I can leave there for xmas presents, and not just post stuff over as soon as I get back! I don't have any specific thoughts at the mo, other than a hardback art book that I've just ordered for my mum, which I know you can't get in the UK.

Has anybody got any good ideas for specific items to take back from Oz, that aren't available at 'home'? Generally, for dad, brother, mum, SIL, kids (1 and 4).

Otherwise I'll just buy them some normal English stuff when I'm there! This is a 'would be nice to do', not an essential!

I took a load of splayds. A very Australian invention. I took my sister butter knives which are not Australian at all but they are everywhere here but you can't seem to get them in England.

I got some Steve parish books from the post office and shorts with surfboards on.

ComradeJing · 09/08/2012 06:20

splayds??

WhoWhatWhereWhen · 09/08/2012 06:41

Can you bring some TimTams for me? Smile

Indith · 09/08/2012 07:02

TimTams. dark ones. I'll PM you my address.

forevergreek · 09/08/2012 07:06

Ps Tim tams taste exactly like English penguin bars

Zhx3 · 09/08/2012 07:07

I love the macadamia nuts in Australia. Especially the chocolate covered ones Grin.

Indith · 09/08/2012 07:20

forevergreek how dare you! TimTams do not taste like penguins! anyway you can't get dark penguins.

savoycabbage · 09/08/2012 07:20

splayds

ComradeJing · 09/08/2012 08:33

Ohhh... Yes, I can see this being an aussie invention. :o

TimTams are the most over rated biscuit ever and the chocolate never tastes very nice.

Kellamity · 09/08/2012 08:36

We really struggled last Xmas to bring back Aussie presents, I had the same plan as you. It was mainly due to how expensive everything was.

TeamGBIWI · 09/08/2012 08:39

I was going to post about chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, but someone has beaten me to it!

CornishMade · 09/08/2012 10:23

You can get Tim Tams in Tesco though! We used to buy them in England, before we moved here. I do like them much better than Penguins!
Choc macadamias would be good for my dad. Maybe I should google some aussie bush food or somethign to take, I have seen jars of 'bush tomato sauce' and such like somewhere before.
Might think about Steve Parish stuff for the kids but it's not a huge draw... :)
Rocklea Road?!
Hhmmm.
Oh - those splayds are weird! Interesting; I shall file under 'maybe'.
Any more thoughts?!

I would get Uggs for the kids personally, SO cute in those sizes and perfect for an English Winter. I have bought them for various small children and they always go down well.

CornishMade · 12/08/2012 13:47

Thanks Sunny, nice idea.

I remember seeing bottle openers decorated with stuffed kangaroo scrotums. Or is that scrota? It was in the souvenir shop in the airport in Brisbane.Wink

CornishMade · 13/08/2012 13:06

Ah yes, the old kanga scrote drawstring coin purse! Grin

Have you come across Dinosaur? They have some beautiful stuff, it's all made of resin and a wide range of prices www.dinosaurdesigns.com.au/collections/classic/

booksandchoc · 14/08/2012 15:35

They do lovely clocks over there, it's like a slice of a tree all varnished. I got them from the Fremantle market for parents and in-laws.

Zhaghzhagh · 14/08/2012 15:37

and there is Fink which is gorgeous. I've got their water jug, which DOES absolutely pour perfectly and is very stylish.

downbythewater · 14/08/2012 15:38

We have close friends who live in Australia and they always send fantastic books for the kids. Favourites include Edwina the Emu, the Aussie Night Before Xmas (includes kangaroos pulling the sleigh!) and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Mossie (she's gotta be Aussie!)

Now if you could smuggle in a platypus for me I would be most obliged Grin
