Singapore - trivial but nonetheless important questions...

Hi all,

Does anyone know where they do bio gel nails? I hope they do cos I didn't have time to have my toe gels removed before I came! I know there are stacks of mani/pedi places here but not sure if they do gels.

Any recommendations for hairdressers and eyebrow waxing (not threading).

Thanks!
Karen

For hairdressing: Toni & guy on orchard (think they might be in temporary premises at the moment). Don't do the others sorry. Welcome to Singapore!

They do gel nails as I've seen it advertised on groupon.com, but I can't remember where, sorry.
For eyebrows I recommend Browhaus, they have several branches - google them.
Hairdressers is tricky, I've never found one that I totally love, but Sabun Cabane in Tanglin Mall is good, if pricey.

Caseys hair and beauty at palais renaissance on orchard is great. Loads of places do gels I think and there are tons of nail places..maybe try some of the ones at holland village, or snails at wheelock..

There is def one in lucky plaza that does gels, think its on 6th floor but can't remember the name so might be a bit hard to find as lucky plaza is a bit crazy!

Hairdressers are really tricky, especially for colouring. I have a lovely friend who has just opened a salon in Chinatown, called Hair on Erskine (on Erskine Rd under the Scarlett Hotel) and even if he weren't a friend I would wholeheartedly recommend him.

He is super, used to do magazine and modelling work in HK before working in London for years, so has lots of experience with Caucasian hair. Great with colouring (lots of people find their blond colour turning orange and that is something to do with the tap water & getting the right tone, apparently).

I have tried Sabane Cabane in Tanglin too, they were the best of the rest. But Andrew at Hair on Erskine is defintely worth a try, a new shop in town and in a fun area. And he is cheaper than Tony & Guy by some margin - T&G can be a bit variable, too.

I think most nail places do 'gelish'?? not sure if that is the same thing though. Loads of nail places in Holland Village so I'm sure one of them would do it.

For hairdressing, I go to Alvin at Trimmings, I really like him and its only $50 per cut. I used to go to T&G but it was $150 per cut which was just crazy and I think Alvin does a better job.

Colouring is a whole other ballgame!! I do my own at home, but I know so many friends who have a real problem with the colourists here. I think the problem too is that the sun/chlorine etc changes your hair colour anyway so you might get the colour you want but then a few weeks later it changes!

Merlion · 30/06/2012 05:01

Yes most do gelish but not sure if that's the same. As you are near Great World there is one in there - Summer something or other on the second or third floor that does it but go on a Tuesday as it's cheaper then! There is a Tony & Guy on River Valley and Trimmings in Robertson Quay too.

Thanks so much everyone. I got my nails done at Holland Village this morning. And I'm going to give Hair on Erskine a go. My hair is dark but the tone has def changed so need to get it sorted by someone who knows what they're doing! Thanks for all the other recommendations. I tried Toni and Guy years ago - never again!!

why wax when you can thread?????

the salons in Wheelock place are quite good and sabune cabana definitely great back up plan.

How much are you willing to pay to save your hair color?

pupsiecola · 01/07/2012 01:54

Re the hair, quite a bit! (But not if you're going to suggest flying back to the UK lol!).

Re threading, I've had it done a couple of times. I find I get better results from waxing.
