Brevet - dd's class not been prepared properly!!

DD rang last night from college - she's interne.

They've just been told that their profs haven't finished the programme for the Brevet - in 10 days time.

I could strangle them all single-handedly. Apparently the principal isn't going to do anything like inform the academie for the region. Unfortunately, they've had a new principal fairly recently - and can't imagine the old one having allowed a situation like that to develop.

Bugger - she's applied to a lycée that's difficult to get into.

Grrrrrrr! Just needed to vent

I wouldn't worry too much - as unless your DD is leaving school after the brevet it doesn't seem to be that big a deal - the bac is the important thing. Also for Lycee I would have thought that would depend more on her dossier ie. her school reports (I know I had to submit two years worth) and maybe references from her college.

hatty thanks for that. DD wants to do her bac in arts plastiques appliqués, and so there are only 2 lycées within 100km - one in the region (not the department) and one in the adjoining region. The one in the region has a really good reputation, and there are rumours of needing a moyen of 16 Shock to get a place.

16 seems very high. There are a few top schools round here and they are selective but most seem to look for 14 or above. Good luck to your daughter.

Hey TB,
i'm a teacher in france and used to work in a college. I agree about the BAC being so much more important than the brevet - i was always surprised by how all the french, maths, history teachers would say they hadn't finished the programme by the time the brevet came around and not seem particularly bothered about it!!!! so i don't think your daughter's case will be exceptional - i think there's a lot of them in the same situaion!

Hope she does well.

Not finishing "le programme" is a French perennial, sadly. My DSS1, in an excellent Paris lycée (national top 20 for bac results) in Première, didn't get to finish his History/Geography programme and, sadly, one of the questions in his bac exam included material that his teacher hadn't managed to cover.

hattymattie · 27/06/2012 17:07

Oh Bonsoir - that's really frustrating - I've all that to come next year. Does your DSS1 know what he's going to do? I've started going on at my DD1 a bit about this - her main objective seems to be to avoid the prepa.

Bonsoir · 27/06/2012 17:44

DSS1 is going to apply for prépa (HEC etc) and for university (Economics) in the UK. He's quite keen to avoid prépa and comparison with his parents (both ESSEC graduates) so if he gets an offer from a good UK university I think he might be tempted.

Depending on the questions she may well be absolutely fine. And don't forget that the exams themselves are not the whole storey, her notes in toisieme are very important so as long as she has a good moyen she should be fine.

frenchfancy · 27/06/2012 20:49

story obviously not storey Blush

Quick update - she's been accepted by the difficult to get into lycée. It's the only one in the region that does the bac in arts plastiques appliqués, and as she wants to go into either design or photography, she didn't want to go to an 'ordinary' one.

Great news Smile!!!

A boy in our apartment building ought to be doing that bac. But his parents want him to do his Bac S before pursuing his artistic dreams Sad. Three years (or more, if he repeats a year) of misery for him...
