he will go to europe to visit grandparents on his own.
we have got the EHIC and of course passport.
what else do we need?
some sort of letter that the grandparents are allowed to go to the dr with him?

i guess it depends where he's going but i dont think people outside of uk are so paranoid about parental consent if you take an ill child to see a doctor.
hope he wont need it anyway.

We have the same thing, my DS is flying to the UK a few days in front of us. I hadn't thought of it, but I should probably do the same thing. He doesn't have his own health card, I should contact our insurance I guess.

A letter of authorisation to travel alone is an absolute essential:
where your child is going
where they are staying and with whom
how long they are staying
copies of parents' passports
your UK contact details, with mobile numbers

It's also useful to carry any relevant medical history - even simple things like dates of last tetanus, blood group if you know it. In the event of a medical emergency, these details and your contact details could make a difference in medical decisions taken.

he will not be travelling alone, I will take him there and dh will pick him up again.
thank you for your thoughts, very helpful indeed.
