Hi, my DH has found a job and is being interviewed very soon. He only applied 2 days ago so we don't have much info.

We have a DS who's 3.5, I have a good job (but part time) but know that, if I leave, I'll never be lucky enough to get one similar on our return. DH has a good job too.

So, what's Qatar like? The job offers accommodation and school fees. Is there much to do for a SAHM or will I be going stir crazy when DS goes to school? I'm pretty outgoing & make friends easily, but I love my job and am quite lazy at home if I've nothing to do. My skills are transferable so I may be able to work but rough calculations suggest only £1k extra a month, I'm not sure it's worth losing my career for...

Sorry couldnt let this pass. Try expatwoman.com, they have a Qatar section. Ask for Dan Lou, she is fab and has young kids and will be able to answer all your questions. I have a friend moving there from Dubai next week, however she has no children still at school so cant help with that.

Regarding losing your career, I cant help with that except to say one of the perks of living in the ME is the availablity of cheap travel. We've been all over the place much more cheaply than from the UK. Egypt, Oman, Turkey, Jordan, Thailand, SA, Sri Lnaka, India, Goa, Zanzibar.

Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it. The provisional interview is tomorrow. I've told DH to "go for it" (interview experience is never a bad thing), we don't have to decide yet.

My skills are transferable to any country, but I'm in a fab job here, I don't think I'd ever get another one so rewarding. But... I could take up sand-castle building instead, that's no bad thing Wink

Only just seen this. Hope the interview went well.

The availability of work for you will really depend on what it is you do. Some professions are very well paid in Qatar, some aren't. Part-time work is (to put it bluntly) pretty much non-existent.

What do you like doing? There are loads of SAHMs in Qatar so no need to be bored.

I'm an accountant for a well known Government Dept Wink
I've seen that the accountants tend to be poorly paid Indians...
But sunbathing could be the new spreadsheet for me Wink
