Can any wise MNers help me please - I have a friend who is in Hong Kong but looking at the postal restrictions from UK to HK I am completely bamboozled - there are so many restrictions and don't know what to get her for her birthday! Any advice much appreciated!!

I don't understand, unless you're planning on sending her semtex or raw poultry Grin. Books, DVDs, clothes, toiletries all completely fine.

what were you thinking of?

book depository ship to Hong Kong and Marks and Spencer ship to mainland China so I assume HK too. There are some restrictions with M&S - no food, confectionary or books.
We live in China and my Mum send all our Xmas presents via M&S.

well, looking at the royal mail website the list of restricted items included printed materials (which I took to mean books), perfume, jewellery, cosmetics, fabrics etc etc. Maybe if I do it via a website such as M & S rather than postal service it'll be easier. Thanks for your help!

That's not true. My mum has sent me clothes, books, makeup etc tonnes of times and openly declared it on the customs forms. Maybe RM mean commercial quantities of said items??

Yes, M&S do ship to HK, as do Boden,Top Shop, Amazon etc

Ok I guess I misunderstood the info - it's all here section 5 www.royalmail.com/small-medium-business/international-business/using-international-services/delivery-other-countries/hong-kong. In the end I ordered something from M&S so problem solved!

yeah- that is odd- I would have interpreted it the same way as you. I only know that no-one complies with this because I live here. Also odd that when my mum fills in the customs form in the PO they don't say anything. Ah well. Thank God for good old M&S Grin
