Do you find that Germans seem to pay too much attention to their children's perceived ailments?

so many potions and mixtures being given, thermometers at hand very quickly to look for Fieber, going to the pediatrician for minor illnesses...

In a way it makes me feel a bit uncaring. For example if my ten old year old looked a but pale and said she had a headache I might offer calpol, otherwise I would carry on as normal and urge her to do the same, German friend with same age daughter kept asking her dd if she felt better yet, if she needed anything, she had various homeopatic globuli to give her...

I find people do rush to the doc when Brits wouldn't (adults for their own ailments too though). However there isn't the all pervading paranoia about allergies there is in the UK... swings and roundabouts! German DH told me I should go to the doc every time I get a bit of a sore throat and lose my voice as the health insurance would pay for a Kur by now if I had done, but it just isn't in my nature to rush to the doc when I know it is just down to being a bit run down with baby related sleep deprivation and there is no magic medical cure.

Hi, German mum living in the Uk here. I wonder if this has to do with having only (very) General Practitioners in the Uk who look somewhat blank at being presented with a sick child, and usually advise to give calpol and wait and see ... compared to a properly qualified Kinderarzt in Germany who knows what he/she is talking about. I was pretty gobsmacked how thorough the examination was when I had reason to see the Kinderarzt with my dds twice while staying with family over the past few years. Here in the UK they have to be pretty sick indeed before I bother...

(might add they were pretty sick before I considered getting the opinion of a Kinderarzt, too)
