Watching UK TV overseas...

Sorry I know this has been done before but I can't seem to find the thread despite lots of searching! I've finally cracked after numerous FB updates about One Born Every Minute and Take Me Out (I like intellectual stuff). Is there an easy way to watch UK TV from overseas? Can anyone remember what the last thread was called?

I've just signed up to UKNova but apparently you need to upload as much content as you download!

I use Filmon.com. It's pretty good. We have a lead from the laptop to the tv (dh set it up) so it's like watching it on tv. Watched eastenders last night! It's the best option for us because we live in an apartment and can't have a satellite dish.

Where are you? We are in Australia & we get lots of UK TV via foxtel

www.tvlinks.eu

There is everything from the dawn of time.72 minutes free so you have to watch in bits and bobs and be quick on the buzzer when the nekkid ladies ads pop up. (there is also a pay version I think without the time limits and bums/tits)

I used to subscribe to vnpuk and watch iplayer etc via a proxy but for the little I watch tvlinks is fine.

I have downloaded Expat shield. It's a security measure that hides your IP address but also assigns you a UK IP address. Whenever I want to watch UK tv (New Year EE, for e.g. Blush) I switch everything else off, Connect via Expat shield and I can watch it on bbc iplayer. Can't do anything else at the same time, bandwidth can be an issue; but it's worth it. Better to watch in the middle of the afternoon here so it's stupid o'clock in the morning in the UK - fewer people on iPlayer which seems to make it easier to watch. :)

I use a VPN and then I watch iplayer, ITV and 4OD through my iPad connected to the TV.

I have a uk ip address via watch uk tv abroad. I download things on iplayer so I can watch at a reasonable time due to time difference. They even have a series link function on BBC iplayer now which is great. I got it because I wanted to watch Strictly last yearBlushBlushBlush. Anyway at a fiver or so a month it's cheaper than a tv licence.

We have a vpn - vpnuk as I recall. But I mainly use FilmOn.com on the iPad. Or the BBC Global iplayer.

DelGirl · 01/02/2012 08:46

Try strongvpn.com It cost me about £35 for the year and I watch stuff on iplayer. Easy to set up and very good online help.

timetomoveon · 01/02/2012 17:47

filmon.com on the ipad and then we use apple tv to send it to the big screen.

SeymoreButts · 02/02/2012 02:45

Thanks for all the advice! I went down the VPN route via adtelly. I watched the first episode of one born every minute this afternoon but it did stop a lot. I'm not sure if that's down to my broadband though?

lots of uk programmes are streamed. We saw the whole of "Downton Abbey" this way. Also some on itunes.
But we've been waiting an AGE for spooks series (8? I think)seems like it was on in the UK 2 yrs ago and its STILL not available in the US because its not been on BBC America or the like...sigh...

Binfullofsiliconelimbsonthe45 · 12/02/2012 00:59

have you tried Zattoo

Depends on the country you are in, but it's really good, rarely buffering and you can get a selection of channels.

Are you in Europe? I am in Switzerland and we have a sat dish and a Freesat Humax box which gives me all of the free channels and a recording function.

@seymorebutts
I'm a member on UKNova and you just have to seed back what you downloaded but no more than that. They have loads of stuff and a really nice online community too :)

Being able to get UK TV when out here is a life saver!
