homeschooling, local schools, rural locations...

DH & I are throwing some ideas around at the moment. There is the possibility of moving to middle income part developed part developing trying to be coy-- very rural South Africa. There would be no international nor private school, there is a local primary school. I have no idea what standard it would be, & I perhaps unfairly am assuming it would be a similar standard to schools I worked with in rural Zambia...? DC1 would only be 5 & entering Y1 at home, so it's not a crucial part of her education, & since I would not be working anyway it would not be a challenge to homeschool her if the local school is very poor... Just rambling really, wondering if anyone has made a similar move?

Oh, it would be for one/two years.

We're in a similar-ish situation - rural location, local primary schools only. We're in a former soviet country which is very poorly resourced and education levels are pretty low and it's very traditional rote learning/teacher is always right.

DD1 is now nearly 7 and would be in Year 2 in the UK. She goes to local school which oddly is in the afternoon. I want her to have the school experience, learn the local language (she's fluent but we've been here since she was 2.5) and it would be very awkward for our work/lives if we set ourselves apart from the local community by 'rejecting' the local school.

We do some homeschooling in the morning but not every day. She's learnt to read in English and I try to cover some things that would be on the National Curriculum because at some point we will go back to the UK and she will need to go to school there.

I also have DS (nearly 5) and DD2 (2) so they will probably be doing the same thing (I've started a bit with DS). Would you have internet access? I'm not sure I could do it without the access to resources on the net. Or at least it would be much harder.
