you could start here:

cancersupportfrance.org/my-cancer

Thanks Briochedoree, I don't have the permission to see the site (probably because I am not in france?) but if you tell me it is the same, I will trust you and pass the information along. Or is the site not working?

One of my high school friend is really sick and I know he has support, I just want to make sure that the other friend who considers him as his brother can turn to someone to talk to if needed. Because he is not family on paper I am a bit scared that nobody will take care of him properly, I am too far away and not able to fly back and I would guess a bit clueless too Sad. They both have lovely ladies but I would guess they might need support too.

Hmm, the link works fine for me. It's not exactly the same: it is a site that lists resources in English for cancer sufferers in France. It is probable that with some digging around this site you might find a similar organisation. Have to say though that in general medical care in France is very good. One of my friends has cancer and she has been very impressed with the level of care she has received. hope this helps

Thanks, I am looking for support in french. I am more concerned about the emotional impact which I know is ignored in France. Anyway, my friend is probably too french to acknowledge is feelings

I think the groups tend to be more local. The hospital should be able to put him in touch with someone.

My DP's mother died of cancer earlier this year, here in Paris. She was fantastically well treated during the 2.6 years she was ill and always said the nurses were kindness itself (this from a woman who was on the 99th centile of über difficult people). I wouldn't worry.

Whereabouts is he?

There isn't a national group like Macmillan, sadly.

Most hospitals will have a support system of one kind or another. A quick google turned up an association which says it provides support/counselling not only for patients but also for their family/friends, but I know nothing about it:
www.association-ressource.org/soutien-psychologique.html

There is also an association for English-speaking cancer patients, and their website has a list of affiliated organisations. It might be worth asking them if they have any ideas of groups offering counselling for those close to cancer patients:

Sorry, just spotted that BriocheDorée already linked to the second organisation...
