Hi

Have been here a month now. Any other Mumsnetters around?

School holidays looming and would be great to have someone to chat to and get some ideas of where to take the kids and how to keep them amused. We have visited some beautiful beaches but would love some suggestions of what else is on. Ideas and suggestions greatfully recieved. Boys are 8, 5 and 3. Very happy too if you would like to join us!

Hello

Sorry, I'm not in Adelaide (NZ now) but I used to live there. I remember the zoo was always a good place to take kids as was Cleland Wildlife park and the botanic gardens. Also the museum on North Terrace normally has a school holiday programme. Burnside pool also good for an outing. The aquatic centre in North Adelaide is good too. There are quite a few mumsnetters in Adelaide - there was a meetup when I lived there. Hopefully some locals will be around soon!

Hi

Lovely to hear some friendly voices! Sorry, its been difficult to get online at the moment as we are in short term accommodation. But all sorted out now.

We are currently near West Lakes and moving to Hallett Cove mid-Jan. Our container should arrive sometime around then too.

We have taken a leap of faith and emmigrated here having not been before just over a month ago. Yet to find jobs and savings dissolving fast but enjoying Adelaide and just desperate to meet people and have the boys make a couple of friends. It was probably the wrong time of year to come out with the school holidays but we were at the mercy of our house sale and had to go with the flow. So -here we are for the foreseeable future!

We would love to hear of any meet ups or ideas for summer hols. My oldest is a keen swimmer so thinking about the VACSWIM course in Jan. We love beaches and parks too. Which parks are good for an all day time outing? I drive so am mobile but, have to say, prefer to stay local.

Thanks

My DB and SIL moved to Hallett Cove last year - sometimes I think they could pretend to be a little bit homesick for the UK. They're loving it.

Adelaide certainly has some very beautiful spots. The beaches and skies are amazing! And we haven't been near the wine regions yet!

Drive down to Aldinga Beach and Port Willunga - just beautiful beaches and Willunga is a sweet little old town in the centre of the wine/almond district. Monarto open plains zoo is good. If you or your DH or DC are interested in cars there is a vintage car museum in the Adelaide hills. Glenelg or Henley Beaches are nice places to walk around and get fish and chips and icecream on a hot summer night.

Semaphore is close to where you are now. If you haven't already discovered it. Fantastic beaches and loads of playgrounds. Good fish and chips etc.

Port Adelaide has a Railway Museum/Aviation Museum and all sorts of other stuff. Railway Museum is fantastic for kids.

St Kilda playground is fantastic - probably more so for the older two.

SA Museum (in the city) is great for kids too. They're running a "monsters from the deep" exhibition this holiday. Elder Park has boats that you can hire. Rundle Mall put on stuff for kids during the holidays. Free rides sometimes. Not sure how good it always is.

I'll think of more and put them up. The zoo is fabulous.

Hi

Many thanks for all you ideas and suggestions. They sound amazing. If you think of any more please do post them. We have been to Semaphore beach which was lovely. Beaches are definitely the main thing we are doing at the moment.

We are hoping to go to the Boxing Day family day at Morphettville race course. From what we have heard it sounds like an exciting day out.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Adelaide Gaol is interesting. www.adelaidegaol.org.au/

Worth a visit. I took my eldest (8) and she loved it.
