Possible further posting to Cyprus - any advise, hints or tips???

I posted this in the 'forces sweetheart' section and then realised it probably would be better here.

DH has been told that posting to Cyprus is a possibility next year. Anyone been and had a good experience? I don't really know any military wives but just wondered if anyone knew what I could be letting myself in for!!

DH desperately wants to do it and I think having a LO to take with us would help but at the moment I have quite a demanding job and I'm worried that I won't cope being a SAHM in a totally new environment as I've always worked or studied.

Any advise, help or suggestions welcome!!

I can't really help you on the military wives side of things, I wouldn't have a clue.

I have been to Cyprus a few times (it's not too far, really, as I live in Greece), as my Greek DH has some relatives there. I've always loved it. It really depends on the area. Some areas are more 'Englishy' and others are more 'Greek'. You will probably meet other people fairly quickly.

Before I had my ds1 I also worked quite hard, and after he was born, we moved to a new city in Greece. Suddenly I was a SAHM in a new place. The first few months were quite hard, but I made myself get out and about to meet people and take me out of myself a bit. You can take your child to parks/ playgrounds and just strike up conversations with the other mums (and it is generally mums).

As Cyprus is new to you, you can spend some time exploring - there are some beautiful places to visit. If you are worried you will be bored, then why not give yourself a challenge - start learning Greek/ recipes from local cuisine/ some other cultural activity that you enjoy. If you have done a lot of studying, the language idea might suit you. There are local language schools, maybe even the university will have a course.

I have found the people there very friendly and welcoming, but on the other hand I have been part of a family group! Personally, though, I would leap at the chance to go and live somewhere new for a short while!
