Question for EU citizens in the Netherlands

I was wondering whether you applied for a residency permit ('verblijfsvergunning') and if so, which one and how did you decide?

I did when I first came but never renewwed it. That was 12 years ago, the permit ran out seven eyars ago. You need to register with the local gemeente but you don't need a residents permit, as an EU citizen it's not required.

When I came here I was told that I needed to go to the IND after 3 months (Immigration). I have a stamp in my passport, no expiry date, if I get a new passport I can get a new one put in. It didn't cost anything. Other British friends here have never bothered. Apparently if you ever want to apply for Dutch citizenship it may cut through some red tape, though as long as you've registered with your town hall (which you have to do to get your social security number) I don't see what difference it would make.
