French school - derogation

Has anyone living in France ever had a derogation for their child to attend a different school from their 'catchment'? If so, was your child excluded from school trips/using the canteen etc?

Many thanks.

Not me, but a friend and no, they can use the canteen and go on trips. The only thing they can't do is use the centre de loisirs in the same town as their school but have to use the one in their home town.

Our friends moved their daughter to a different school in the same town (less than 1km away from the first, in fact). It doesn't affect anything much AFAIK, and she isn't excluded from anything, but I do know that school meals cost far more here for pupils who are not resident in the "commune", as the rates are given out at the start of each school year.

Ours both had derogations, as we lived on the edge of the commune. The only consequence has been a slightly more expensive cantine and centre bill at the end of the month.

Sorry - just seen these replies! Thank you all, that's a great relief. I'm off to the mairie today for the enrolment, armed with my derogation!
