I just wanted to post and say that I hope any American Mumsnetters in the south were ok and were not caught up in the tornadoes.

Oh, I didn't know there were some in the South. I'm so sorry, MDS.

Hope things improve soon.

Yes, am here. It was very scary. Very high winds and torrential rain that made driving nearly impossible - almost like being in a car wash. Big trees uprooted and branches down everywhere, but mostly all fine around here.

Serenity - thanks for checking in.

Madam - so glad to hear from you. We were worried on the 'living in America' thread as you haven't posted much recently. Glad all is OK.

Hope jabberwocky is OK, as I know Arkansas was affected too.

Will post more later, as am on the way out but just wanted to post quickly that all is relatively unscathed in my part of Tennessee.

Madam - once again, glad to know you and the family are OK.

Found this news story today:

''WASHINGTON (AP) - Preliminary government estimates said there were more tornadoes in a single day last week than any other day in U.S. history.

Government analysts said Monday there were 362 tornadoes during last week's outbreak, including a record-setting 312 in one 24-hour period.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the largest previous number on record in one event occurred from April 3-4, 1974, with 148 tornadoes.

NOAA said 340 people were killed during the 24-hour-period from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday to Thursday.''

Glad everyone's okay! It looks terrible from the news reports :(

Just caught up having seen you on the other thread. I hope your friend turns up soon.
We had two warnings in the near area but nothing came of them thankfully. I think the weather service was just being sooper dooper cautious.
Hopefully the "interesting times" are over mostly.

fridakahlo · 03/05/2011 02:58

We had a thunderstorm just up the road which had 17,000 lightning strikes in a three to four hour period.

Have only just seen this thread. I have friends who have just moved back to the USA from the Middle East They are in Alabama and I've not heard from them since. Have sent them a few email/FB messages but not heard anything. Am hoping and praying its just because of loss of power or something like that.

mumoverseas · 09/05/2011 17:17

Just checked and they live in Lincoln, Alabama. Anyone know if that was badly affected?
