Sorry, not Mexico - waaay down south in Brazil... Smile
Never seems to be anyone from Latin America in this topic , although I always check, just in case.

Congrats on the baby!!

GoingToBeSize12 · 12/04/2011 22:25

I'm in the middle of you both, in Panama. I too always look in the hope one day someone else from here will join!

nello · 14/04/2011 03:59

we should start our own latin america group!...with just the three of us in it! Wink What you two up to in Brazil/Panama? How old are your LOs?

Mine are 8 and 6, nello. But I'm a fake sort of expat as I moved here when I was 8 yrs old, though we kept up contact with the UK and I went to University there. Its been over 30 years now!!!!

Sun is shining today though the mornings are getting chilly already... The birds are singing in the garden and I can hear the steady, soothing sound of... TRAFFIC!!!! Grin

GoingToBeSize12 · 15/04/2011 01:22

A Latino group sounds like a good idea to me!

My DD turned 1 last week. We've been in Panama since last summer and all is going well. The only downside is we live in the only part of the country that's not nice (and unsafe). We don't have much choice we it's where DH's job is, so I spend a lot of my time driving into Panama City which is an hour away.

Before we were here we lived in Romania (where DD was born) and before that Dubai. We're not sure how long we'll be here, possibly until the end of the year and then a move is likely. Lots of projects for the company DH works for in Brazil Geocentric, so we might head your direction.

Hope your baby is doing well nello

nello · 15/04/2011 02:29

wow, sounds like you move around as much as we do size12 . We'll be leaving Mexico in July, although not sure where we'll be next - DH's job still to be finalised, although the move after the next one could be Dubai. how are you feeling with the moving and having a LO? I suddenly crave the UK and being close to family and friends, fingers crossed the next move will be Europe so it will be easier to see people.

So Brazil is really home then Geocentric . It's hotting up here in Mexico...poor DD is struggling to sleep in the heat. Any tips?

She's doing really well otherwise, falling more in love with her day by day!

Ooh, can I gate-crash your Latino group??! Although i actually live in Oxfordshire - does that count.
I did live in Mexico City for 3 years though and absolutely loved it. Still have lots of good friends there and wish daily that I could move back there.

Nello - whereabouts in el Df are you living? Where else have you visited?

nello · 16/04/2011 22:03

Hiya. I'm living in the Roma Norte. Love it too, though feeling the pollution in the mornings at the mo Hmm and craving English fresh springtime air! Where were you living and what were you doing here?

Hi all, hope you had a nice weekend. Ours was busy with school activity for my DDs class, a first birthday party, lots of cousins around... Somehow in the middle of all that the kids actually managed time for homework, too!! Oh and on Friday it was my birthday, too... Wink

We are supposed to be in autumn here, with the weather cooling down, but instead we're having a heat wave and its been back to sheets at night and complaining kids ("Its too hot, I can't sleep" etc). nello my DS was born in mid-summer and really there wasn't much we could do except strip him down to bodysuit only (or even diapers only at times, even at a couple of weeks old), keep to the shade and try to keep the bedroom cool (shutters closed when the sun was on them, for example, open windows only in early morning to freshen up room and then close to keep heat out).

size12 where in Brazil are your DHs projects based? Smile

Nappy hi!

NappyShedSal · 18/04/2011 12:50

I was in Col Axotla which was right be Viveros - between Coyoacan and San Angel - loved it. I was a teacher at the Edron.

GoingToBeSize12 · 04/05/2011 16:52

Hello all. Life has now returned to normal after having DH's parents and sister her for 10 days. Bloody hell it was hard work! Cooking for 5 adults is a task in itself! Whenever they come to visit us they always go into 'holiday mode' but I think they sometimes forget they aren't in a hotel but in our home. It's really not that difficult to help clear the table after a meal is it.....

I've posted a message in Children's Health but I wonder Geocentric if you can help? Whilst at the Dr's yesterday he mentioned having blood tests done for my 12 month old as a matter of routine. One of the tests is for lead. Did your DC have this done? I just don't really want her to have blood taken without a good reason. He also gave her Hep A vaccination but said here they don't have Men C vaccine, so guess I can get that done in the UK.

Geocentric · 04/05/2011 20:11

Lead?? Sounds very odd - are you sure it wasn't iron (ferro in Portuguese, not sure about Spanish)?? Never heard about testing for lead... Confused

Cooking for guests is tough, not much of a 'holiday' for you... Hope you've caught up on normal life after all that!!!!!

DS and DD are watching me type and want me to add: Smile Blush Biscuit Brew (luckily its this thread and not a Friday night one Wink)

Iloveshoes001 · 04/05/2011 21:08

Can I crash too? I spend several months a year living and working in Mexico (mainly Cuernavaca & Puerto Vallarta) and doing my damndest to make a more permanent move. Kids grown up, but happy to share in all things Latino. Does that count?

Geocentric · 04/05/2011 23:49

Of course it counts!! The more the merrier. Smile
Iloveshoes001 Is it weird adjusting to going back and forwards (I assume you divide time between Mexico and UK??), or is it heaven? If it wasn't for small DC it would be my idea of bliss - best of both worlds [been-listening-to-too-much-Hannah-Montana-emoticon]

peachydays · 05/05/2011 16:54

Hi - I am about to move to Mexico City from London (on May 16th) as my husband has a job at UNAM university. We'll be living in Coyoacan. I have a 7 week old baby, so just about the same age as yours, nello.

I am quite nervous about leaving family and friends and finding baby friendly things to do. Any tips?

Geocentric · 08/05/2011 14:05

Happy Mother's Day to all in Latin America!!

Got some lovely flowers this morning plus pressies they made at school - a decorated wooden box from DD ("for your 'jewels' mummy"...) and from DS a fold-up cloth case (again for jewellry!! Now I need DH to give me some... Wink) which he decorated with fabric pens. Off to lunch in a while with mil, and its a beautiful, sunny day. Smile

GoingToBeSize12 · 08/05/2011 14:54

Happy Mother's Day indeed all. Actually in Panama it's not MD as they celebrate it in December (and it's a public holiday!) so nothing special for me this morning. Actually, I seem to miss out as I'm British but DH is from Belgium, so he never knows when UK MD is yet I don't seem to get lovely treatment on the European one either! I think we need to decide which one we are going to celebrate and stick to it whichever country we are in.

Thanks for replying re blood tests Geocentric, will refuse them. I double checked with him and it is for lead - v odd. I think it must be to do with lead in water pipes but DD has bottled water so all should be OK.

Good luck with move peachy days.

'Tis pouring down here and I have a DD with a terrible cold so just cancelled brunch with friends and now have no plans. But DD started walking 2 days ago - can I just share that with you all (proud mother!!!!) - so all's well.

nello · 12/05/2011 02:03

wow, haven't checked this thread for weeks and it is growing well - lovely, it's made me really happy!

Peachydays you'll be here really soon! great, we'll have to meet up with our little ones :) Coyocan is lovely, you'll be happy living there. I have a few friends there, but no one with babies....i'll ask ask around for you though. I'm not too far from coyocan, i live in the colonia Roma/condesa. I can definitely help you with baby friendly things - it's not very easy, i've hunted them down and they are hard to find, but I currently do a mums and baby yoga class, a baby massage class and there is another mums and baby group for expats that I haven't been to but it is apparently mainly a social for the mums who speak english at a different person's house each week. I will be leaving Mexico in August but I have a good friend here with a 3 month old who is here for the long haul so you'll have to meet. Send me a message when you have arrived, feeling more settled and ready for a meet up.

Happy mothers day as well to you all....i had a lovely time, street burgers, wine, ice cream and flowers and my LO actually had two daytime naps which was the perfect present!

glad everyone's doing well in our far off places Grin
