Seen too many threads of people worrying about moving overseas and worrying schooling, tax breaks, flights blah blah.

Can we celebrate leaning about new places, societies, and cultures. Yes sometimes its mad and hard...but we're better for it!

I love it too - lived in 7 different places on 3 continents in the last 10 years (for > 1 year in each case, with a proper job - not backpacking and bar-work), and can't imagine what my life would be like if I'd stuck in the same place instead (although I realise that this kind of life isn't for everyone).

Sure, it's cost a bomb and I can't ever really nest properly, but the experience is fantastic (and the fooood)

Goodness knows what we'll do when ds is old enough that he needs to settle in a school :S

Yay!!!! I've lived in the UK for 4 years out of the last 16 and lived in 6 different countries.

Despite the cost, the heat and different style of government, we prefer overseas to the UK. In fact, DH and I have agreed not to live in the UK again unless we absolutely have to. We visit the UK once a year and love seeing family and friends who we miss (although thank God for skype, blogs etc) but are always pleased to come home.

DCs are blooming here, swimming every day, eating different food, learning Mandarin and making friends with children from loads of different cultures. What's not to like?

another lover of living overseas. traffic jams, rain, high petrol prices? what are these??!!Smile

sunnydelight · 28/03/2011 06:51

We love it in Sydney, in fact these days the UK is overseas to us and Australia is home. I would be devastated if anyone told me that I would ever have to live there again.

esselle · 28/03/2011 07:00

I love Melbourne!!

Such a beautiful sunny warm day here today.

It makes me feel glad to be alive! Grin

The 10yrs I spent living in London are such a distant memory...

We love being expats and have now decided there is no going back until the children are well into their teens and give us some input as to wether they would want to go back and "experience" the old world.

'traffic jams, rain, high petrol prices? what are these??!!'

I'm not in the UK, and we have all of the above frequently!

MmeLindt · 28/03/2011 08:17

Good thread.

Another one who loves living overseas - but tbh I have been abroad longer than I lived in UK now so where is home exactly?

We do have traffic jams though.

I love:

  • the relaxed lifestyle
  • how child and dog friendly Switzerland is
  • swimming in the lake in summer
  • the small village and school
  • that our DC are trilingual
Themasterandmargaritas · 31/03/2011 19:55

Oh yes I'm very happy overseas, though give or take a few months here or there it has been 12 years since we have lived in the UK.

We do have bad traffic though Grin

Lovin' it! We live in Dubai, yes it's garish, has no culture, blah blah if you beleive the Daily Mail. We love it, surfing daily, mad traffic (not sure about that), stunning architecture, waking up to the sound of the call to prayer, randomly seeing goats, chickens and a rooster right in the heart of town Confused, loads of opportunities to meet people from any country. And to the nay sayers, you dont know what you're missing,
