It looks 70/30 that we will be moving to this area before the year is out.
There is 4 of us DD1 turns 4 in April DD2 2 in Dec
I know you need about 2/3000 for rental.
can anyone tell me how are ££ goes.

EG: £80,000 = X Euro (enough to live on)???
£100 = X Euro (good ok ??)
£150 extra.

ALL tips on what is a good salary to live on and what you need to just live.

You don't say whether you are paying your own rent or if you are getting any more "benefits" such as school fees, utilities paid etc, or if the salary will be paid in £s or ?s.

Rents in Le Vésinet is an extremely expensive area, probably due to the high expat population, the Paris mnetters could probably advise you where the cheaper areas are.

£1 currently equates to ?1,15 and the highest it has gone recently is ?1,20.

But 1? doesn't buy you as much as £1 does because things in general (basic foods, utilities etc) are comparatively expensive. I don't bother trying to convert the cents difference anymore. I just equate ? to £ and try not to think about paying £1 for a stick of bread!

Le Vesinet is a lovely area but very high rents, from eye-watering to faint-inducing depending whether you live in centre or towards Le Pecq. It's very, very popular with expats - the British school and the International Lycee are nearby, it's a direct RER into La Defense and Paris and there seem to be lots of things aimed at anglophones.

Whether you have any expenses included will make a big difference.

Thank you we are still not sure on package or salary at this stage.

Is it possible to commute to Chatou from a smaller village where rent is not the same as Knightbridge. As this is where the office will be.

I am going french school the kids as are both under 4 and we have no plans to return to England or OZ.

I am not looking for expat lifestyle just one that is the same standard we have.

Chatou itself is probably cheaper than Le Vesinet. It's nice. You could also look at Bougival, La Celle Saint Cloud, Montesson, Le Pecq. TBH most places around here are nice. If you want to be in a bigger town, look at Saint Germain en Laye. I live not far from Le Vesinet. When you say commute, do you mean train or car? If you have a car you can go as far out as you like, you just need to watch the traffic coming into Chatou in the morning (there is one main road that leads onto the A86 and into Paris that gets completed snarled up). If you want bus or train you need too look along the RER line or on the bus routes.

Have you looked on seloger to get an idea of rental prices? Le Vesinet and Croissy are inflated in part because they are walking distance to the British school. You get a bit more for your money in parts of Montesson, but some of there can feel a bit soul-less - large newly built estates etc. Not too far to Chatou though.

There are also some very nice "residences" around here, so do consider that as a possibility if the budget isn't stretching enough! Some of the ground floor flats have small private gardens, and there may be communal playgrounds, tennis courts and even a swimming pool.

I live in La Celle Saint Cloud and drive to Croissy (and occasionally on to Chatou) each morning and the traffic is fine as everyone else is heading towards Paris and not in my direction!

I would say my grocery shop is at least 50% more here than in UK.

found you a house - bargain!

Compared to Le Vésinet and Croissy, wow yes that house really is a bargain. go for it...
