Emergency with elderly parents!! Cannes/Nice - help/info needed please!!

Hello

Does anyone know of any professional nursing organisation or care institution near Cannes/Mandelieu/Nice please?

My sil is looking after her father who has vascular dementia (he is very agitated and confused) and her elderly mother has just fallen and has a possible broken hip.

She can't be with both of them at the same time and is obviously very distressed. My dh can't get to be with them until the weekend. I can't leave here because of dc.

My sil is very anxious to find someone who can be with her father temporarily - but it has to be the right person who is compassionate but experienced dealing with confused patients and won't use sedatives.

Does anyone have any ideas/contacts please?
Any info very gratefully received.

If they are insured in France, social services will help. Your SIL needs to talk to her parents' GP.

Thanks for your response Bonsoir -

Sil has spoken to her GP and unfortunately, the local respite hospital for the elderly is not recommended by him.

She is therefore confined to their apartment looking after him.

Why if her mother has a suspected broken hip hasn't she been hospitalised?

But if this is out of the question, then your SIL should contact her own mutuelle and her parents' mutuelle(s). The 'assistance' part of the policy sometimes covers emergency care in the home for up to 48 hours. And if they don't cover it, they probably have the numbers for organisations in the area that provide this kind of cover.

Thanks Othersideofthechannel

Yes, mil is hospitalised but sil still needs to visit (operation tomorrow and then one months's recuperation on ward)

Apparently (and I don't know why this is) the pils aren't covered by a mutuelle there

Just wanted to know if anyone has any info about freelance nurses or any other organisation that could help and provide some emergency cover. (We already pay for a nurse to go in every day to wash and shave fil but they do not have any other spare workers atm)

Will ask sil if HER mutuelle has any useful contacts though - thanks

Oh I understand the situation better now. I thought the parents didn't live together.

You can get addresses of freelance nurses through the yellow pages but I don't know how it works without drs prescription.

Mutuelle is optional. It's up to them to take out private cover to top up the state provision.

Thanks again Otherside- will check out yellow pages for the area.

Trying to find right person though - don't want a jobsworth as fil gets very distressed with strangers!! Found link to alzheimers society last night so going to phone them this morning to see if they can recommend anyone with the right experience. Dh leaving tomorrow to be with them but it's going to be a bit of a long haul and we need extra hands ....
