Hello

I am living in Belgium (for 2.5 yrs now) and with 2 toddlers and being in a very english area, I have not learned french or flemish. The best I can due timewise is to do an online course - should I just find a dutch one (can anyone recommend) or is it possible to find a Flemish one?

alstublief (?)

Our gemiente sent me a letter inviting me to go for free dutch lessons.
Could be worth you phoning (or visiting) yours to find out whether yours do the same.
I didn't take them up on it, me and DD are leaving in July.

I downloaded the Michel Thomas Method Dutch foundation course on to my iPod. I have been listening to it on the bus. It is quite good.

The Gemeente run cheap courses, some in the evenings and some in the mornings. Worth looking at? I did two years worth at De Kam in Wezembeek and it was great. Could you not park the kids in a playgroup for a couple of hours and go then?

might be a bit late but in flanders, (not sure if also in brussels, I live in antwerp) there is an organisation called PINA which offer courses or refer you. You can study on day or evening courses and you only pay for your course book. good luck!! :)

Why dont you use a halte-garderie or Farondoline type childcare centre and do a day time course? This type of child care is very cheap. IS the eldest in school? Perhaps ask a friend to babysit the younger one - assuming not twins? Dutch courses are very plentiful, assuming you are somewhere around the Tervuren / Overijse / Wezembeek area. Hubby does Dutch in Tervuren and paid about 60 euro for the year, course is free, that charge is effectively the charge for photocopying and admin. Here s the timetable for the Dutch courses in the area. The secretary speaks English who books the courses. The same adult education service runs French courses too.
