I am in the middle of packing and have noticed on the shipping/customs forms that I have to declare anything that is less then 12 months old.

Why? Anyone know?

I did not have anything that new last time but now I have loads. I really do not want to pay tax in my primark vests and aldi moisturiser!!

I wonder if they mean anything of significant value less than 12 months old (not that your Primark vest aren't of value... I miss Primark...)

For example, 42" LED TV, Gucci watch, Mercedes car...

I think it is to do with authorities charging duty on imports, but then how could they prove the age of your goods?

Duty is payable on anything under 12 months old. BUT, that said they are looking at people sending out bulk items so a few washing machines or TVs

If you have anything new, just make sure it is unwrapped if you don't declare it.

Call everything an "old coat" or similar with a value of less than $5. Simple.

yeah we got stung for duty on our tv when we shipped our stuff to oz.

We've never declared anything to be new, even thought it may well be.
OTOH, we've never done our own list, the agent has always done it for us.
