a new wintery thread in honour of Hupa's first snow of the season!

x posted earlier Linzer. Glad you had a good weekend. And that the bug did not spread. I´ve not been to the cinema in years...over 8 years in fact! I borrowed a DVD from the library, but Dh and I never got round to watching it so I have just now watched half of it as I did the ironing. Inglourious Basterds. Hmmm. Next time I shall get some romantic comedy :) Tarantino is a bit heavy for the middle of the day.

Hope the new dr can help your DS. What allergies does he have? Dh was saying that there is some pollen or other already in the air. Hard to believe given the cold weather at the moment, but I guess it was relative warm a few weeks ago.

LinzerTorte · 31/01/2011 15:22

It must be getting on for eight years since we last went to the cinema without the children, as we went to see Love Actually, which came out in 2003. In fact, I think it's the only time we've been since DD1 was born.

We actually have an appointment with the paediatrician at 6 pm today, so I hope he can give us some answers. DS (like me) is allergic to cats and dust, so we'd sort of assumed the dust is what's causing all the coughing and wheezing but are not really sure - and according to the Lungenfachärztin, he only has a mild dust allergy.

Now rushing to get DD1's homework finished (we've only just got back from the DDs' piano lesson); we need to leave in about half an hour as it will take us the best part of an hour to get there. I haven't driven there before and don't know the town very well, but had the feeling the sat nav I bought DH for Christmas would come in useful sometime. Grin

cannot catch up as things still a little unsettled... didn't get keys yesterday couldn't get a hold of anyone so spent another night in a hotel. Moo has a terrible cold with fever and was miserable last night (so we all were being in the same room). Finally got keys mid day after searching high and low for the place... the building is in the middle of a very large 'block' with no sign posts telling where the building is... couldn't find the entrance to the carpark either which is under the building so DH had to cart our things from the road to the place about 800m away. Happily there is a lift so he didn't also have to walk 3 sets of steps too.
We're trying to relax and settle now. xx
hope you're all well.xxx

what's with a queen sized bed with 2 single mattresses?? and sheer curtains on all the nearly floor to ceiling windows??

And I forgot my stupid German phrase book!!

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 05:35

having a miscarriage I believe as I've woken in a pool of blood and have cramps...

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 06:12

not really sure what my course of action should be as nothing is sorted with medical insurance etc any more since dh is not officially working thru his own company.

Canella · 01/02/2011 08:10

oh bebe no - oh god my heart goes out to you.

I was going to say just look in the phone book for a Frauenarzt and phone them but not sure how good your german is? could you phone and say "Sprechen Sie englisch?" - i'm sure in Munich there must be someone who speaks english. You cant stay at home without any medical care if you're miscarrying. Do you still have an E111 type thing - would that not cover any emergency treatment at the moment - can you not tell a lie say that you're in Munich visiting - they dont need to know you're staying long term at the mo.

Hope someone else will be along with more help soon - i'm sure 2 other MNetters live in Munich - they might know!

(((((big hug)))

My German is terrible/ non-existent.
Sent dh to work to try to find info out about insurance etc. We've not signed up for the EHIC/E111 as we were told not to.
posted here for info and getting things sorted found a gyn near by (walking distance) but there was no answer on the phone (which filled me a a small bit of relief to be honest as I was uncertain what to say)
Just need to control myself again before trying to call.

LinzerTorte · 01/02/2011 08:31

Oh bebe, you poor thing - I hope you manage to see a gynae as soon as possible. It looks like you've had some good advice on the other thread and I don't really have anything useful to add, but just wanted to send (((hugs))).

Canella · 01/02/2011 09:39

any news bebe?

OP posts:
bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 09:57

receptionist didn't speak English or couldn't understand me because I broke out in tears. Going to try to write a note and I guess go in. Tho I'm currently feeling the need to sleep and dd is not doing well either with her cold.
Dh is trying to sort out insurance while 'working' which is not ideal. He's calling BUPA next.
I do feel better when I lay down, the cramping eases. Tho I'm sure it's to no avail really. Really need to sort out some food too.

silkenladder · 01/02/2011 10:55

bebe how awful. I hope you've managed to see a dr by now. If it helps, all you would need to write/say is "Verdacht auf Fehlgeburt".

As they said on the other thread, most drs should speak a bit of English. You would get a bill for the scan, but it shouldn't be that expensive and you should have time to sort out insurance before an ERPC if that's necessary.

Really hope that it's good news.

westvan · 01/02/2011 11:58

Oh dear, bebe! I hope you've gotten some help by now but if you're still there, you should just call an ambulance - 112 - and have them take you straight to the emergency department of any hospital. I'm pretty sure you'll be covered by your old insurance plan for several months.

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 12:44

cannot for the life of me find the place. walked back and forth along the street looking at all the little signs and I even showed the address and name of the place to someone, but they just shrugged and said something I could understand (of course).
Poor Moo was whining the whole time miserable with her cold. I've come back to simmer again.

westvan · 01/02/2011 13:02

Please please please just get yourself to the nearest hospital! They will sort everything out for you.

westvan · 01/02/2011 13:02

What city are you in? What's your address and the address of the doc's office. Maybe we can find it for you.

LinzerTorte · 01/02/2011 13:21

bebe Please take westvan's advice and get yourself to hospital. If Germany is anything like Austria, there's a chance the doctor's surgery will be closed this afternoon, anyway - and you really don't want to be wandering around looking for it in your condition.

Thinking of you - I'm sorry I'm not any closer to be of any practical help, but please let us know if we can help in any way.

westvan · 01/02/2011 13:33

I have to go out now but let us know how things worked out, bebe! I see you also got some advice on the other thread.

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 13:39

dd terribly poorly finally got her to settle by holding her, if i move she starts screaming; i cannot possibly go out again until dh gets back. do not have 10euros; would have to find cash machine too. not bleeding any longer, cramps are dull ache. feeling as if another couple of hours won't make difference

positives- I'm very hungry and have been able to eat without being sick

silkenladder · 01/02/2011 14:25

I don't know for sure, but think calling an ambulance could be v expensive.

The Frauenarzt mentioned on the other thread sounds like a good bet if they are open until 7pm. Otherwise if you go to the hospital make sure they don't admit you overnight as that would cost a lot as well (assuming your dh hasn't sorted out some insurance in the meantime).

Fwiw I think 200? sounds like the maximum it would be likely to cost. I've been offered (unnecessary) scans for 30? by my FA in the past. It's possible that prices in Munich are higher than here though.

What time is your dh coming home? If you're not bleeding at the moment and not feeling too weak, then curling up in bed with your dd is probably the best thing to do for a couple of hours. If you're feeling very faint or strange, then take a taxi to the hospital via a cash machine (Geldautomat).

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 14:36

cannot get a hold of dh currently so I don't know when he's back. expected he'd be back by 4 at the latest tho.
which reminds me must try to sort out german phones too

bebemoohatessnot · 01/02/2011 15:34

Couldn't get hold of dh because he's been calling insurance providers and EHIC people. Insurance providers won't cover (Me) because the pregnancy is pre-existing; EHIC guy said we would be covered and gave dh another number to call but when dh called that number they said we wouldn't. Poor dh is stressed beyond measure and feeling very useless.

LinzerTorte · 01/02/2011 17:15

Oh no, you really don't need the additional stress bebe. FWIW I was pregnant when we moved to the USA and the first few insurance companies we spoke to wouldn't cover me because it was a pre-existing condition, but we did manage to find one who would in the end so don't give up hope.

Hope your DH is home by now; it must be so hard having to deal with this all by yourself.

stickylittlefingers · 01/02/2011 21:26

HI - sorry I realise I'm coming in in the middle of things, but just wanted to add - Bebe - not sure where you are? I'm in Brandenburg and if I can do anything to help I would of course...

Also re EHIC, my very recent experience is that the receptionist had to fill in lots of forms, but all I really needed to do was give the card in, the passport, the name and address and sign something to say we hadn't travelled to get the treatment. That suggests to me that if you are entitled to an EHIC card, you should be able to do the same thing (they then work it out with the local Kasse to be paid, apparently). I'm sure it would be better to be with a private insurance, but at least that's a safety net?

Anyway, if I am anywhere near and can help with translating or anything, let me know. Certainly here no one spoke any English in either of the Drs we visited.

bananasananas · 02/02/2011 05:32

....oh bebe....poor you. what a horrible day for you all. How are you today? I hope you got some medical attention.

Big hug and hope today is a calmer day for you all.

In case you need one this is a great online dictionary which Linzer introduced me to:

www.linguee.de/

more hugs....

admylin · 02/02/2011 06:54

Bebe, I also wich I was nearer to help. How are you and dd? Hope you are both feeling better. What a start to the German experience. Pleased you got some help on your other thread, especially mmelindt knows what she's talking about. I have no idea about insurance etc, I only know that the E111 card was what I used for 2 years while au pairing in Germany but that was years ago.

I was busy yesterday - mega shopping day and just walke din th edoor (to a tip in the kitchen as usual) to start cooking and tidying and the child psycologist rang to say someone had cancelled and could we come straight away.

We were there for an hour and she said we can try to treat dd's selective mutism even though she has come out of it abit and the dyslexia testing is done in 5 appointments ending in May so it's going to take ages to get to the bottom of it. Was abit fed up that it'll take so long and dd was exhausted by it all. It'll only cost 40 euro for the certificate at the end if she does have dyslexia, if not it's free.

OK, this morning I have to get a parcel ready and take it to the post office (forgot my dad's birthday) and open savings accounts for the dc which I should have done a year ago. And we've got snow again..
