I have no idea, but the long-shore drift is really buggering up the beaches, mate.

I love it when a plan comes together.

HowsTheSerenity · 15/07/2010 12:00

I am curious but also somewhat slow so will come back later to see if I can figure this out.

BeenBeta · 15/07/2010 12:01

This may well be the pyramidal peak of your MN career.

I asked some Australian colleague donkey's years ago where she came from (wasn't really interested but you know how it is).

She said ACT.

I just looked at her and asked where --the- fuck is that her to explain.

She just blinked slowly at me and said 'Canberra, it means Australian Capital Territoty' as if I was supposed to bloody well know.

Haven't thought much of Australians since there, including Kylie. Sorry and all that.

god they are freaks.

New Zealanders use CBD too. Now I know where they caught it from.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2010 12:20

I don't get why Americans say downtown either.

I was in Tampa and someone said that where we needed to go was 'downtown'. I looked on the map, it was at the top. Up, not down.

Bloody colonials

I think it's because, it's like, the central district of the city, where business is done.

Durr

TheBossofMe · 16/07/2010 04:01

Everyone calls em CBDs as well here in Thailand. No idea why!

PadmeHum · 16/07/2010 04:07

South Africans call them CBD's too.

It's a way of referring to the "city" as opposed to the "burbs".

Poor old Canberra, forever destined to inferiority.

Not many people could point to Canberra on a map - outside of Australia that is ;-).

I live in Australia, so I HAVE to know where it is.

AllThreeWays · 16/07/2010 04:08

I live in Canberra

TheBossofMe · 16/07/2010 04:21

Nope, couldn't pick Canberra out on a map, sorry!

PadmeHum · 16/07/2010 04:27

AllThreeWays - I live in Brisbane - so I know how you feel (we really are the poor rellies in the great family of Australian cities [grinl).

Ozziegirly · 16/07/2010 04:50

Padmehum and allthreeways.

I take your Canberra and Brisbane, and give you ADELAIDE as poor relation city.

In a recent newspaper poll even its own residents called it a backwater.

Mind you, even we look with slight horror at Canberra.

DH and I went there and just spent the time going "so where is it? Where is the town? We seem to be on a main street but where are the people?"

AllThreeWays · 16/07/2010 05:01

There are some lovely things about Canberra!!

AllThreeWays · 16/07/2010 05:01

I'm sure I'll think of them soon...........

Ozziegirly · 16/07/2010 05:10

It's near the Snowey Mountains.

Ummm

It's got that big lake with an unexpected fountain.

It does have the best University as I understand it.
