Life-limiting illness

Pain, blood in urine, difficulty urinating, not a UTI - is this serious?

I never thought I'd ever make a thread here! But I'm wondering if anyone with or knows someone with similar symptoms can help.

3 weeks ago, DP initially thought he was passing a kidney stone. He had sudden onset of excruciating pain in his lower back that radiated to the front and hip. Over a 2 week period the pain would fluctuate in severity and moved down to his groin area. And since has had pain and discomfort in his lower abdomen, testies and penis. He frequently needs to wee but has difficulty getting it out. When he does theres blood in his wee and it stings and burns.

He had this same thing a few months ago but never got to the bottom of it. Out of hours Dr just gave him antibiotics which didn't help at all.

He has also been suffering with pain in his bones - hips, legs and back and is regularly fatigued and falling asleep.

He handed a urine sample in earlier this week. Dr phoned him yesterday and told him he did not have a urine infection and asked him to come into the surgery to get blood tests done and to provide another urine sample.

When googling (I know I know!!) prostate cancer kept came up which match his symptoms perfectly. Could this be why the Dr phoned and asked him to come in for blood tests? Surely if it wasn't anything to worry about the Dr would've said blood and urine test to rule out x, y and z? And surely if the Dr thought it was kidney stone related he wouldve arranged a scan rather than blood tests! DP did have a kidney stone years ago but says this is different. He's only 41, we have young DC 😞

So I guess im wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone. Thankyou for reading x

Put a message on your other thread. This was my husbands symptoms. At one point we were told it was most probably cancer. He also had a high PSA.

My husband is going through the exact same thing. Same pains. Saw a GO and had antibiotics. Things cleared a bit but his urine test came back that he had no UTI. He’s been told he has to have a blood test as prostrate seemed larger and tender. Really hope all is ok for your husband.

Prostate cancer is rarely a cause of death.
It is extremely treatable.
At this point you don't know it is prostate cancer. Symptoms of cancer rarely come on all of a sudden. It is more likely to be an infection e.g. prostatitis that may be causing a systematic infection.

This is reassuring! Thankyou for suggesting prostatitis, I looked it up and it definitely could be this! It's still not great and sounds awful, I feel so bad for him but it's much better than the alternative.

I think what worried me was reading that prostate cancer has no symptoms until it metastasises which then leads to bone pain, fatigue and other pains which matches what he has been experiencing for months. I Also just realised last night he has been complaining of feeling nauseous almost daily.

Urgh it's so easy to spiral and convince yourself of the worst when there's still other less scary possibilities!

Not seen your other other thread, but could also potentially be primary hyperparathyroidism - caused by a (99% of the time) benign tumour on a tiny gland in the neck, if so it can be cured with one surgery. Blood test for calcium, Vit D and Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) for diagnosis.

Yes buts you also have young kids and he may have an infection for weeks, that's going to make him feel shit.

Google is not your friend in this case. If he is a bit useless with the GP ask to sit in on the consult.
Prostate cancer if it is that is immensely treatable
