Hi not sure where to post this. my mum who has COPD was taken by amblance for a flare up yesterday and was sent home later that night. Her arm where they have had the cannula looks awful is this normal or should i be getting it looked at?

It’s bled under the skin. As long as it’s not getting bigger it is fine. Not pretty, but fine.

What the PP said. Your poor mum I bet that’s sore!

Not as bad but this was my arm after having a cannula removed after a procedure a few years ago. It didn’t hurt - hopefully your mum’s doesn’t either. I do bruise very easily but this wasn’t tender like a bruise.

Yes Ive had this, its very common, I also had problems where a cannula came out the vein and the drugs when into tissue, was very painful and swollen

I've had similar after a cannula removal and be reassured this is normal.
The back of my hand looked like it had been stamped on and the bruise took about 6 months to disappear 🙄

Thankyou I've had a few in the past but never looked as bad as this! She does also have low iron so that could also be why it looks to bad

Is she on blood thinners? This can exacerbate issues such as cannula bruising.
