Please can someone suggest something useful! (UK based)

FIL has terminal bowel cancer. No timeline on how long he has left but it won't be long. He has been taking some intense vitamin tablets because the cancer is limiting his absorption but he is hating it and is now refusing to take them - too large and taste awful.

We need to find a vitamin powder that could be dissolved in water but could also be added to food (e.g. pancakes). Essentially like a protein powder but with as many vitamins as possible. Ideally chocolate/fruity flavour. He doesn't have the energy or patience to try multiple brands etc so we need to get this right.

Gummy vitamins, pre made shots and the like are a hard no, it has to be a powder.

Please help!

  1. athleticgreens.com/en they should sell / ship in the UK as well . They cover everything, but they are green.

  2. As an alternative, my multivitamin is not a large pill, it is a 2cm capsule - so no taste , not even an after taste - and the serving size is several of them per day. www.thorne.com/products/dp/mens-multi-50 Throne is the leading brand in US , more expensive than supermarket brands but third party tested.
Could this be an option? You can buy them here uk.iherb.com

  3. Does he have a port? If yes, a multivitamin infusion would be the best option .

However, if he is receiving active treatment, even for palliative care, he shouldn't be taking supplements, vitamins or antioxidants without the approval of his oncologist as these interfere and reduce efficacy of chemo treatments.

and
option 4) Leave him alone. He has terminal cancer, a vitamin deficiency will make no difference in life expectancy or quality. Don't engage in battles for something futile. Make his last days his to control.

You want to have a smoothie with him, hit the frozen section at your local Tesco and buy strawberries, blueberries, mango, pineapple, cherries, melon and passion fruit, add some flaxseeds, one date, and you have a fair bit of vitamins and minerals.
Seriously. These are his last days.

Complan might do the trick. It's a powder available from pharmacies & some supermarkets which you make into a milkshake but I think could be added to items like pancakes, porridge etc with the milk. It might not be that great mixed with water only though. It's primarily used as a build up supplement for recuperation. It comes in Vanilla, Strawberry & Chocolate in packets of 4 sachets or a larger tub in Vanilla only. I used it when I was on strong chemo (& continue to use it now I'm on a less severe regime) made up into a smoothie with fruit, mainly banana, and manuka honey for a bit of extra sweetness. You can use more or less of the recommended amount to make it thinner, thicker or blander in taste. Anyone can have it so it need not be wasted if not suitable for your FIL. I use it with non-dairy milks but it has dairy milk in it. It's best mixed with an electric whisk to incorporate all the powder.

@MatchaTea we're very aware these are his last days, no need to remind us. He has asked for this as his appetite is poor and he wants whatever he does eat to be as beneficial as possible with little effort/discomfort.

No treatment at all, not even palliative so no concerns there.

@HauntedDishcloth I'll suggest complan, thank you. I think he has prepared drinks so might be similar
