Hello,

I hope this is the right place to post. My 67 year old Dad has advanced prostate cancer with metastasis, which was diagnosed in Feb. Since then he's had a variety of treatments including hormone therapy, chemo and is about to start infusions of zoledronic acid for bone strength. He's responded really well to all these treatments and is as a general rule fit and well, and living life at the moment as near to normal as possible.

He was wanting to go with a friend to watch the cricket in the West Indies in the spring, and now the dates have been released has started to make proper enquiries. So far though, the travel insurance costs are very high. Obviously he understands the insurance will be much higher than normal, but the only quote he's managed to get thus far is nearly £2000 for 9 days away.

Does anyone have any experience of this, and any advice on getting an insurance quote that might not be quite so high? His consultant has said he has no concerns at all about about him going as despite having advanced cancer, he is
general fit and well. I know though that the insurers will base their calcs on the facts.

Thanks very much.

Sorry, my relative was in a similar situation and it ended up costing them £1500 for a week in Europe. Maybe not what you wanted to hear .,

I can't remember how much it cost, but MIL got travel insurance with StaySure even though she had advanced cancer with a high risk of suffering issues from it

Have you gone through a broker rather than just standard quotes as a specialist is likely to get you the best deal?

Macmillan recommends trying to find a broker through the British Insurance Brokers Association, phone number is in the link. Their forum also has a thread with community recommendations for cheap quotes.

Thanks both. Grateful for any comments, positive or negative as they'll help give a feel for what's realistic!

Thanks Anna. I don't think he has gone through a broker, but I'll recommend that and also have sent him the link you provided. Thank.

I was recommended InsureWith when we had issues in the family. Never actually had to use them but know people who did.

We have someone with a major underlying condition, and have used this company

Premiums reasonable, but we haven't needed to claim so don't know what that aspect is like.
