Absolutely floored DH has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He's only 48.
He has a tremor in his right arm so we got him tested.
They're going to sort out his meds & he'll be going in for appointments over the next 6 weeks.

Anyone with any experience please? Words of advice would be gratefully received.

Hi,

Firstly Flowers it's a dreadful shock. Secondly be prepared to see the worst, by this I mean other people who have it/peoples stories of people they know. Treatment now is much improved so someone diagnosed today will have a different outcome to those diagnosed 10 years ago. Also as more people get it when they are elderly their outcomes are different. Have a look at the Parkinsons charity there is also a sub group for young people with Parkinsons you might not be ready now but it can be helpful.

My dad has had Parkinson's for over 15 years. It is a tough illness but there are treatments. I would highly recommend asking for a referral to the national neurology hospital, and preferably to Parkinson's specialist prof Tom foltynie. He is really lovely. The problem with many neurologists is that they are generalists. You need a Parkinson's specialist because it can be difficult to balance the drugs etc. Also have a read about deep brain stimulation down the line.

Firstly Flowers - that's a shock and probably feels like a lot to take in.

My dad had Parkinsons, but much later in life.

I'd echo what others have said - meds and treatments are getting better all the time, but you and DH will need to invest time and effort to fine tune them for him.
Do join Parkinsons UK, but just dip in for the bits that are relevant for younger sufferers, as it may seem a bit overwhelming otherwise.
