Stage 4 question

I know that no one can answer this for definite and everyone is different but I'd just like to know a rough idea as I've just found out a loved one is at stage 4.
how long is life expectancy roughly? Is it likely to be weeks, months, a year etc?
Also if having chemo, how much longer does it typically give? again weeks, months, years?

Genuinely depends on the type of cancer, treatment options etc. My DH got 18 months but people on a forum for his cancer has some with 3/4/5 plus years.

I think it's lung cancer, I didn't want to question too much as we were all upset as it came as a shock. It's inoperable and chemo is the only option to hopefully give them a bit longer. I just want to prepare myself if it's only weeks or less than a year. My brain is automatically thinking the worst.

It totally depends on the cancer, and on the person. Stage 4 can mean totally different things for different cancers in terms of timescales, but generally means incurable.

I'm very sorry about your news Flowers

So many factors will influence the remaining length and quality of life. Age and Lifestyle, amount of spread to other organs of the body if any, type of Cancer, there are several that can involve the Lungs, and tolerance to the Chemo or any Radium Treatment that may be given. Without access to the results of any scans and Blood tests that have been done, it's impossible to predict how much life someone has left. Even then, there can be suprises and people can last a lot longer than they expected them to.

Op Flowers
I knew 2 people with stage 4 lung cancer. One lasted 4 weeks from diagnosis with no chemo, it was diagnosed too late. The other with chemo lived 5 months.

As others have said...very variable. A friend was diagnosed with stage 4 a year ago and told if she had al, the treatment she would have a good chance of 5 years. However Covid intervened and treatment was stopped temporarily but she won't have anything like 5 years now,

She is one of the many hidden victims of this pandemic

My husband has T4 prostate cancer that has spread to his bones with no symptoms. He is on Enzalutamide and HT and is responding well. He pushed his consultant for life expectancy - I know not everyone wants to know. They told him 5-6 years,
