Hi I'm just wondering if anyone else on here developed fibromyalgia after giving birth ?

After having my son I developed a pain throughout my whole body & tiredness that was something else. ( my son slept 12-14 hrs when I first brought him home so wasn't up throughout the night unless my pain kept me awake)
I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia & I'm wondering if anyone else felt like this too after given birth. My son is now 18months & I have been off my work since February. I seem to getting worse not better. Doctor says birth or pregnancy can trigger it but never heard anyone else going through the same thing straight after birth.

Thanks !

Hi op
Fibromyalgia is not a life limiting illness. (That is, it will not limit the length of your life)
I think that you have posted in the wrong place.
Try one of the pregnancy boards or general health.

Agree that it isn't a life - limiting illness as in will reduce your life span (but I do agree it limits your life in terms of ability to do stuff!).

Fibromyalgia can be caused by anything that causes stress or trauma on the body - emotional or physical so yes, childbirth is a physical stress/trauma and can cause fibromyalgia to flare up.

Go to the general health board, there are a few threads on there from those of us with Fibromyalgia.

I was only diagnosed when my youngest was 18 months old and I know that pregnancy made me worse but I had symptoms for years before having children.

It does limit your life in the sense of how much you can do, but not your length of life.

Look into medications that can help, though it can be tricky to find which suits you best and can be trial and error.

If you report your own post Mumsnet HQ can put it on general health.
