Hello all.

Dear MIL not well with suspected liver/pancreatic cancer. We are awaiting further tests/info but the GP has indicated that she is in her final months. She is bright in herself, but not eating well, and GP has recommended a low fat diet.

She still lives alone and manages independently, but someone is now bringing her lunch and carers will be used as her needs increase. In the meantime, we are looking for something nice for tea, which is light but enjoyable, other than egg, and would appreciate suggestions which you or your loved ones have enjoyed.

Thank you x

@Notverygrownup I dont have direct experience of this but my MIL died earlier this year from lung cancer.
I assume the low fat diet is to prevent liver problems/pain?
With my lovely MIL she completely went off food and drink and ate virtually nothing for months as she didnt want to eat as she felt unwell. She got fantastic support from our local palliative care team/Macmillan who encouraged her to eat whatever she wanted and also have a tipple if she wanted to. She knew she was terminal at this stage though. She mostly lived on ice lollies for the last few months.
If your MIL is eating very little anyway then surely she should be encouraged to eat whatever she fancies, as getting some nutrients inside her is better than none, I'm not sure that a small amount of high fat food if she fancied it would be detrimental to her?
Is she getting support from a nursing team/macmillan? I would speak to them for advice and depending on her prognosis they may encourage her to have whatever she wants. Difficult times Flowers

Hello, I lost my mum recently to pancreatic cancer it's a dreadful disease. There are quite a few Facebook support groups, let me know if you want the name of them.

Normally with pancreatic cancer they are given creon, because the pancreas isn't working properly it helps digest their food when it's taken with every meal. My mum would make like savoury muffins to have as a snack as regular smaller meals are better, she'd have fish or chicken with veg for lunch and tea, salads, sweet potato instead of a baked potato.

Hope this helps at all if you have any other questions I'm happy to help in any way I can x
