Ca-125 - an indication of Cancer?

Hi all

My mother is currently waiting for a CT scan as she is pretty poorly and has a shadow on her lung that they cant quite make it out.
Her bloods showed that her CA125 (tumor markers) were elevated but the consultant said he doesnt consider this as an indication that she has lung cancer. I understood that they use this for when diagnosed cancer patients are receiving treatment.

My thinking is along with all the symptoms she has, now this, it really doesnt look good so i had a look on the internet. Ive read that Ca125 is an indication that there may be cancer.

Im really confused. I went into this appointment naively as the GP had told me they were not suggesting it was cancer.... but it seems, everyone actually are.

Shall i prepare for the worst?

It is an inflammatory marker for ovarian cancer as you will have googled. I had an ovarian mass (borderline malignancy) removed years ago and my Ca125 was very high. It wasn't malignant though and I didn't need any further treatment so it isn't always bad news x

Thats what the consultant said however my mum has has a full hysterectomy.
So it wont be ovarian related

When you say full hysterectomy do you know for sure that the ovaries were also removed? Is there any chance you are mistaken? Hysterectomy is often just the uterus.

No, we thought it was partial but we checked with the doctor around 3 weeks ago (it came up in convo at her app) and she confirmed they took everything.
