My 16 year old daughter has been prescribed tranexamic acid for extreme blood clots. They've told her to take 2 tablets, 3 times a day for a full 20 day course, however everywhere it says to NOT take them for more than 4 days. i was wondering if anyone else has been prescribed a similar course of tablets. Also on the information about these drugs, it says it will NOT stop bleeding all together but hers has stopped after 3 days on these drugs. Thank you.

I have a clotting disorder and have taken this for over a week following operations. It was around 3 weeks last year. Then a short break and another week's worth when the bleeding recommenced. X

SadVillageGirl. I'm wondering what your disorder is. I've never encountered anyone with my disorder. It's not a super serious thing if I can get the correct treatment. But it'd be nice to know someone else with it!
I've got Storage Pool disease. X

OP, I take these and I have them on repeat prescription and take them for more than 4 days, usually 15-20 days have a short break and then recommence. If you have any concerns go and speak to your gp

I have ITP which is a blood disorder causing low platelet count which stops your blood from clotting properly. I now control my period with the pill but I used to take TA when I was about 12-14 as my periods were really heavy. Just be aware that it can cause quite big blood clots, but to me that was better than bleeding through my clothes at school at that age.

Also, I took them for my entire period which at the time was 7-10 days, never heard about the 4 day thing.

I've just checked, and you can buy them over the counter. Most otc medications have a similar warning. This is to alert people to the fact that if the condition has not resolved in X amount of days you ought to seek medical help.
But if the medication is prescribed by a GP then they are already monitoring your condition.
Hope she is better very soon.
