Hi,
I will try to keep this as short as possible.
My husband recently had a series of TIAs and was released from hospital last week.
We are waiting for appointments for a heart scan and optometrist.
When he had one of the initial strokes he was seeing double and had a dark shadow at the focal point on his one eye.
He saw an optometrist and was given a prism. This has stopped the double vision and the shadow is not so prominent however his vision is not good and he finds it hard to focus ( everything is fuzzy).
Over the last couple of days he has started to get headaches again ( he first had these with the first TIA); and straining to look at things won’t be helping this.He can’t watch television, walking is difficult and the brightness of the sun is uncomfortable even with sunglasses ( which make his eyesight worse)
He is due to see the optometrist in 7 weeks however he simply can’t wait that long it is too debilitating and depressing.I am extremely concerned about his mental state.
I think we should go private to see someone quicker.
I suppose what I am asking is would you agree?. I know there are no guarantees but at the moment we are in limbo, we simply don’t know what is going to happen.
We tried to get an optician to see him but they can’t if he is still being treated by the hospital apparently.

I’m not medical but I think I would make an appointment with the gp and ask if they can give any assistance in being seen any quicker. I would stress the effect this is having on his mental health and any other concerns. I would also call the eye deprartment and stress that you will happily accept a cancellation appointment if there is one (assuming you can get to the hospital at reasonably short notice).
I hope you can get him seen quicker and hope someone else may have more / better ideas.

Oh that's terrible, OP. I hope he makes a good recovery.

The key feature of a TIA is that the symptoms resolve. I would be concerned that as the symptoms are ongoing he could have been misdiagnosed - unless I have misunderstood your post? Was your DH seen in a specialist stroke unit?

I'm so sorry to hear that, I started typing my first post before you had posted your update x

I hope you're Ok, OP.
My husband had a stroke a couple of days ago. It's not somewhere I imagined I'd be, watching my big bear of a man in such a vulnerable place.
I hope your husband makes a good recovery. Flowers

Hi all
Thankyou for your kind replies, he has severe damage to both the left and right side of his brain , it has affected his memory and ability to form sentences.
Fortunately it has not affected his sense of humour and his personality shines through despite some very strange behaviour.
They have said he will be in for a while, but this time we are getting help, they are doing a heart scan, helping him with eyes and giving him speech therapy and he won’t be coming home until it is safe and 5hey have found and treated the cause.
Blossom cat I hope your husband has a good and speedy recovery. Xx
