Hey everyone
My gfr last Aug was 58 which my gp wasn't concerned about. I've had another test last week and it's now at 56. The dr said that it has been going down gradually over the last 8 years. Does anyone have any experience of this? When do they intervene with specialists etc so worried xx thanks x

How old are you?

EGFR is a measure of Kidney Function.

Everyone's declines slowly as they age, generally speaking.

That number isn't awful, and isn't, alone, a reason for anything to be done except regular monitoring.

Real intervention will only come if there is another reason for concern, if the number starts to drop suddenly, or as and when it gets in the low twenties/later teens.

For comparison, a figure of 15 or less is usually considered kidney failure.

From what I know, the average rate of decline is 1% per year. Given that, you've not much to worry about.

If you are concerned, a kidney friendly diet is low salt, low alcohol, low caffeine and loads of water.

Odds are, unless there's other reasons for concern, it'll be mostly a case of repeat tests every so often.
