We're at the hospital this afternoon and im on a mission determined they will give my dh some better pain relief!!
Its not right that he cries out in pain in the evenings. Have been googling and we think morphine patches though the day with something for the breakthrough pain would be better.
If anybody has any better suggestions would you let me know please Smile Thanks in advance.

your palliative doctor/nurse should be able to advise on pain management. I don't know if it helps, but methadone apparently helps with nerve pain.

Hi Ludoole, yes morphine type patches are good, the doctors should also provide top up for breakthrough pain, these drugs will depend on what the patch is. It's not right that he is still in pain, that is something that can be managed. As someone said upthread a syringe driver is good for consistent pain relief. This is usually based on current symptoms ie sickness, restlessness etc. The hospital palliative teams are excellent so push for referral unless that has already happened.

I hope you are managing to stay strong and your dcs are doing ok. Take care.

Thanks all. He's on Fentanyl patches now with oramorph to top up.
Im not saying he looks ill... but as soon as we got there they wanted to admit him. He wouldnt stay though, so we are back tomorrow for a scan to see if theres a blockage in the liver or if the liver mets have taken over Sad
They have basically said theres no more treatment options even he wanted them...
Hes a lovely shade of 'The Simpsons' yellow... Hmm

So glad to your DH has some relief from pain right now.

I hope I'm not being impertinent in guessing that your DH and you want him to be at home for the rest of his time, and I hope you can have this comfort.

Your Simpsons analogy made me :o and Sad

Many many bunches of Thanks

Keep a note of how much Oramorph your dh is having to use. They'll increase the patch if he's having to use it frequently.
Sending Flowers and thoughts. I really hope your dh is comfortable once the patch kicks in, but don't be afraid to use the Oramorph as and when he needs it.

Echt yes he wants to be at home til the end.
He had a scan this morning and they are perplexed that they cannot see his gallbladder??? Confused
He seems to be getting irritated with everything and everyone lately which is making things harder at home.
He has visitors that always ring in advance and hes so lovely to them when they are here but when they go he complains about them staying too long half an hour usually Hmm
I know im complaining Blush but the complaining is impacting on our limited quality time and he wont use any of my suggestions.
Still love him to the moon and back though Smile

I am reading with interest as DFIL is going through similar after a very unexpected final DX a week ago (initial DX on admission to hosp the previous Friday so all very sudden) - I am also smiling at the "Simpsons shade of yellow", as DFIL is similar.

I hope he gets the relief he needs, and to stay in the place he wants.
