what's the longest you've waited for the results of a biopsy?

dh has been having treatment for bladder cancer.
he had a cystoscopy/biopsy at the beginning of the month and, despite all my calls to the hospital there's no news. not even a an appointment to discuss results. I believe the histology results were in last week.

I'm sure last time it all took less than a week.

anyone else had to wait like this?

We normally get results the same or following day. My dh is also having treatment for cancer

Thanks for your replies although I'm sorry you're in a position to advise. Are you with NHS? I'm more baffled than ever tbh :(

Am not but tbh I didn't think should make much difference as generally they don't tend to make you wait (there has to be some upside to cancer).

Is it something as simple as holiday time means there has been a cock up on contacting you? I would chase up as I don't think you can be too pushy on results or appointment.

Do they have to wait til Mdt meeting or is it just a question of dr looking?

I've been chasing them for the last three weeks. Spoken to dept. secretary, a registrar, and our key worker nurse. They agree that it's unusual for the results not to be 'in the system' by now, I'm beginning to think they've been lost :(

they do need to discuss the results (when they find them) in a weekly meeting, but they've been planning to do that for the last 3 weeks

Oh god, I don't know your financial situation but I'd be tempted to get the scan repeated privately, then find a specialist to interpret them....all this waiting must be driving you insane!!! X

pommy, yes, being driven fairly mad with it!

We've actually got insurance and could go private, but whenever we've suggested it we've been told that we may as well complete current set of tests/treatment on nhs because switching won't speed things up.
It certainly looks like that's no longer the case.
We'll be investigating switching to a private hospital next week

My experience is doesn't change treatment but admin/timing slicker so I would investigate a change

Can i ask how you chose which consultant to see privately?
We could see the consultant dh is with at the NHS hospital in one or another of private hospitals nearby, but since we're in london there might be a few options. Not sure if it would make much difference.

Didn't have much choice as have weirdy rare cancer so there was about 2 options - fortunately I like my specialist (most of the time). Have you been onto bladder cancer site or anything else to see who they suggest? Also sometimes insurance co have preferred consultants . But If you are happy with dr (not the admin) Doesn't seem much point changing.
