I'm really sorry to be asking this hear when I know people in the forum are dealing with truly awful illnesses & all they bring & my question is going to sound really bad, so I will briefly explain why I ask.

I've a difficult relationship with my Mum, she already has a lot of major illnesses, MS & Diabetes etc, but she also has what I suppose is Narcisistic tendencies, maybe BiPolar, but basically over many many years she has invented more and more health problems, including a short stay in hospital to regulate her blood sugar levels - due to her eating badly as a punishment to my Dad - I was already worried, but live the other end of the country & my Daughter was very sick at the time too, - she rang me to tell me she'd had both a stroke & a heart attack & was dying - none were true.

So now she has genuinely been sent to the Oncology dept, 7 phials of blood taken, all stemming back from a conversation she told me about with her GP 2 months ago - My Dad is worried sick - not least because his Brother recently died of Cancer & I'm worried about my Dad as he has heart problems, so the stress is bad for him - no test results back yet

Mum has just rang & left me a voice mail message - telling me my Dad shouldn't have told me that she has bone cancer ( he hasn't) she hates worrying me etc etc & basically she is dying - she doesn't see the Dr for the results for 6 weeksConfused, but she understands thats because the room was full of Cancer patients & my Mum is too ill to help so her appointment will take longer.

I hate sounding callous & disbelieving & I'm torn between being worried sick & thinking it doesn't sound right & she's at it again - no scans mentioned, just bloods.

Does this sound right, would it really take 2 months to be seen for blood tests & then 6 weeks for results - its been a week already

thank you

Doesn't sound right, no. IME (not same cancer tho) I had max 2 week gap between each test. Between initial referral from GP and actual surgery was less than 2 months, and that was including tests and a CT. They are usually very very quick where cancer is concerned and def 2 weeks is the limit in my PCT.

Sorry you are going through this.

No, its not right at all. There would be a whole lot of scans and investigations, and then short gaps between appointments to discuss them.

I always thought results, tests, etc, were rushed along in cancer cases tbh I 'm not so sure. My dad was diagnosed end of Nov, was sent for CT scans, etc only got his final prognosis early January and is still waiting 4 weeks later for another CT scan to see if the cancer has spread to his brain (they are almost certain it has). We are aware he only has a few months left but feel if they say he is going to have a CT Scan then he should. So our experience hasn't been great.

I do hope your mum is spinning you a yarn but thinking of you.

Rockin hippy-can't help on the cancer thing. But lots in your post is similar to mother-she is bipolar and has several health problems which are quite big. Thing is, she's happier (although tormented really iyswim) when there's something wrong. It's really sad because I just get to the point where my heart sinks when I see her number because I know if I answer it'll be twenty minutes of actual, exaggerated or imagined illness. Ironically, the one thing she cant face up to is her mental illness. I hope you get some answers about your mum from a trusted source soon. Mum lies and dad believes her and no one else is allowed to say anything (generally for good reason I know)
